Again the crowds detract from the Temple. Yes it is covered in gold paint, it's not clad in gold. The garden is okay, not spectacular. Getting there takes longer than seeing it.

The pictures always look amazing of this most beautiful sight, but the reality is even better, whilst ginkaku-ji is lovely, the golden temple is without doubt the top temple to see. For added impact visit during the cherry blossom or autumn time ( also best temperatures). It is a 30 minute bus trip from downtown or central kyoto but a must see sight

I had a great time touring the Golden Pavilion. Beautiful beyond all belief! Bought a money charm and successfully threw a yen into the "lucky" coin bucket!

This place is a must on the tourist trail in Kyoto. The customer flow is very well organised and its best to get here early in the morning to avoid the queues which begin to build up almost from the word go. I've been here a few times and it is still an amazing site whatever the season or whatever the weather. Strange to think that the original was burnt down by a nationalist student in the 50s and then rebuilt. The main building is never open to the public but that doesn't mean that its charisma can't be felt on every visit. Go and be amazed

The golden temple is stunning, as is the scenery it is surrounded with, but the paths around it to take photos were packed and crowded, and the bus from Kyoto to the temple was crowded and also packed. I would recommend visiting, but go first thing in the morning before it gets too busy.
