I had a great time touring the Golden Pavilion. Beautiful beyond all belief! Bought a money charm and successfully threw a yen into the "lucky" coin bucket!

This place is a must on the tourist trail in Kyoto. The customer flow is very well organised and its best to get here early in the morning to avoid the queues which begin to build up almost from the word go. I've been here a few times and it is still an amazing site whatever the season or whatever the weather. Strange to think that the original was burnt down by a nationalist student in the 50s and then rebuilt. The main building is never open to the public but that doesn't mean that its charisma can't be felt on every visit. Go and be amazed

The golden temple is stunning, as is the scenery it is surrounded with, but the paths around it to take photos were packed and crowded, and the bus from Kyoto to the temple was crowded and also packed. I would recommend visiting, but go first thing in the morning before it gets too busy.

I would give this place 5 stars but it is just so busy with busloads of tourists that I felt this marred my enjoyment. The Temple is beautiful, set in the most stunning gardens, which are designed to "borrow" the surrounding hill landscape. I managed to get some good photos by raising my camera above the crowds. There is also a lovely little tea house that is mercifully quiet and cool.

Lovely temple with beautiful grounds. Surprisingly quiet and peaceful considering the huge number of tourists. Not a garden to wander round though - there's a one way route so all visitors are funnelled along the same path.
