Can be combined with the Herb Gardens and Cable Car, plus easy access with the hop on hop off bus. Nice area for a stroll around, entry to the houses seems expensive, but the little shops and cafes are cute.

This peaceful neighbourhood on the hillside above Kobe is worth a walk around. It has a few old colonial houses and quiet little streets. A side of the city that is worth seeing.
We have a a quick tour around this area and did not enter any of the attractions. We feel that this place has it’s own charm but not something for us to be ‘wow’.
If you are in Kobe and do not wish to spend too much, then do what we did, have a quick walk around to see the surroundings neighbourhood. It is really a charming place.
The area where the foreigners used to have their homes. Some are well preserved and open to the public. It is a nice area to stroll around. We visited the Dutch house, for a fee that I found rather expensive, and that was for me a disappointment. Just a house of a former period and certainly not "typically" Dutch. It was the kind of interior that could have belonged to any foreigner at that time.
I really liked this area. It was clean, quiet, and reminiscent of Europe with it's street lamps and old western-style houses. Some of these houses are museums. I went to two: Moegi No Yakata (green-colored) and the Weathercock Mansion (red-colored). They are very close to each other and you can buy a discounted ticket from a vending machine that covers both or a ticket that covers either one. I saw both but frankly speaking the green-colored house wasn't so interesting. Therefore, I recommend seeing just the Weathercock Mansion. I've included a picture, and also a picture of the Starbucks in Kitano-cho which you must see because it's located in a two-story mansion itself.
Quaint, traditional colonial houses were great spots for photos. Boulevard that are well kept with floral and foliage that enhance the old world charm.
Do check out Starbucks and it was really like stepping into someone’s bungalow complete with books, chandelier and picture frames that decorated the entire two-storey house!
Enjoy! Be back ...
