Staff knows very very minimal English. The rooms claim to have wifi but it was unreachable. The room have a huge wall covering behind the bed; a very uncomfortable feeling. The bed were hard as a rock and the room had Mosquitos. The bathtub had mildew everywhere and cracking wall. Horrible stay.

I stayed here two nights while attending a conference at a nearby venue. The hotel is located in the northern suburbs of Kunming, just under an hour's drive from the international airport.

The rooms are very well appointed, roomy with beautiful fittings and coverings. There is a large bed with hard mattress, a sofa, work desk and even a PC with ethernet connection! You can unplug and plug in your laptop. Wi-fi works in some rooms and in the lobby but is spotty. The bathroom has a large shower recess and a bathtub, again with nice fittings and tiles. The hotel is located on a busy intersection but the heavy curtains block out most of the traffic hum at night.

There is an extensive breakfast buffet that spans two sides of the front end of the restaurant. This includes noodle bar, other Asian dishes, pastries, juices and coffee. There is tea shop that also sells cool drinks across the road. A Walmart store with full grocery is a short taxi ride away (13RMB or USD2). In the area are several Chinese hotpot restaurants that have been reviewed on tripadvisor.com

Service was friendly and some of the concierge staff speak some English. There is a foreign currency exchange desk where you can buy Chinese currency but not sell it. To buy foreign currency you'll need to go to the Transforex booth inside the international terminal at the airport, past the immigration point. They charge 60RMB commission for the first transaction and all subsequent transactions are commission free if you can produce and show them the receipt for your first transaction.

Overall a good choice for the business traveler if your appointments are in this section of the city.

Stayed 3 nights here and while this is a modern hotel with some nice facilities, there are a number of factor which make it a difficult place to stay for foreign visitors. First the positives, which are that it is very clean and modern, rooms are spacious, breakfast if pretty good, and the staff are generally friendly and try hard. On the downside, hardly any of the staff speak much English, so you have trouble getting what you need. Menu in resto and room service are both only in Chinese, and pointing at pictures yielded some quite unexpected results. There is no wifi or internet connect in the rooms, which is a major constraint for business travelers like myself. Wifi is available in the lobby. No international TV channels. Hard bed. No gym. Limited bath products. Its also very far from main center of town around Green Lake, so not easy to go out, limiting one to eating in the hotel. Generally a nice place, but I would look for somewhere else next time.

Room Tip: There are no non-smoking rooms.

This was my first trip to China. A friend who lives in Kunming booked the hotel for us and it was absolutely lovely. The room itself was modern, carpeted with thick plush carpet, was very spacious, with a desk, computer (all in Chinese!!), a mini bar, flatscreen TV, and a comfortable couch. The bathroom was also spacious, with a deep bath included. All stone benchtops and porcelain tiles. Exceptionally clean too.
Negatives were: 1. that no one spoke English, except for one of the staff in the restaurant at breakfast time, which made life hard when communicating during check in and check out time. Once again our friend assisted with this. Ordering dinner was hilarious, as the menu had English translation under the Chinese, but when the food arrived it was a little different to how we expected, for example we ordered T Bone steak and it came out all chopped up into little pieces, served in gravy...it was delicious though. Their version of "roasted potatoes" was large, peeled, whole boiled potatoes in a bamboo steamer.
2.The king size bed was extremely HARD, typical of Asia, but worse (I slept on the couch).
3. WiFi was difficult to obtain...apparently it was available in the lobby but we could never access it.
Breakfast was substantial, plenty of choices of hot and cold dishes. Smoking is allowed everywhere in China, which is very unpleasant when eating to say the least.
All in all, it was a good stay, with the rooms being serviced every day, fresh water bottles given, as you can't drink the tap water. They even put flower petals in the toilet bowl :)
Would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We were on the 11th floor. Good views but not picturesque!
