“A Genuine Authentic Mountain Village Experience”
Reviewed 9 April 2018 for a stay in March 2018

Want to experience an authentic China mountain village and maybe even some of its life. This Laojia is operated by a Dutchman who we actually reached by WeChat in Holland as we were having trouble with wifi. While we didn't solve our wifi troubles, the vacation from internet was actually relaxing, and for future reference this apparently will be solved for others by summer 2018. In the end we were truly rewarded by a genuine village experience. We were welcomed with a dinner meal over our village contact's personal home fire pit. We experienced some authentic home made "whiskey." "soymilk" and a variety of foods including vegetables (bamboo shoots unlike any consumed before), tofu and pork. The four of us: 2 near 70 year olds and two of our adult children (30's) lived in a village shelter, rustic cabin-like by any standard, with kitchen and breakfast of oatmeal and fruit and hot beverages, hot shower and firm beds in rooms of our own but shared space. One day we hiked to a waterfall in the morning while the afternoon was used to learn how tofu can be made village style and how to construct straw shoes. All was relaxong with some time for viallge and terrace touring. Meals were simple, determined by the cook, but all agreed delicious. Our costs were transportation (this will vary by departure location but for us was 400 yuan), accomodations ~250 yuan per night, 60 yuan per activity for 180 yuans and 20 yuan per person per lunch and dinner: a total which adds to approximately 1400 yuans for two days and nights (~$235) for four. Be certain, this is not a 5 star hotel experience, but that is the entire point. We would do it all over again, both young and old. Consider changing your travel habits and experience some of the real China.
