This has rave reviews so I was very disappointed when I entered the complex and found it lacking in character and authenticity. The full price ticket allows access to 5 museums but you have to pay extra if you want to do the walk along the walks or enter into any of the small museums/ activity areas. The church of St Peter and Paul is a must see and did not disappoint. This was definitely worth a visit and you are able to buy a ticket to this separately. You have to pay to use the toilets in the fortress complex and these were not the cleanest.
I would recommend walking around the outside of the fortress along the Neva and this is very pretty in the winter when the river is frozen over. There are lovely views of the city from here too.
