We are grateful for other reviewers' accounts, without which we would have had an even more difficult time locating this hotel. But once located, we liked it! We opted for a double bedroom with private attached bathroom - the room was spacious, clean and comfortable, if not somewhat dated. However, what we liked the most was its location - it is a stroll away from the Red Square, and there were many restaurants and cafés downstairs on the same street. Great value hotel in an otherwise expensive city!

I stayed here after a St Petersburg to Moscow river cruise June 3-6. The location is EXCELLENT!, < 10 min walk to Red Square/Metro. < 5 min walk to the Bolshoi. In addition, there is a pedestrian only street in front of the hotel-very nice for breakfast.

It was 80+ in Moscow during the day, but it did cool off at night-a ceiling fan in the room would have been nice.

The shower in the shared bathroom DOES NOT have a shower curtian-this keeps the managers busy wiping up water......

OK, the two ladies that seem to run the place ARE NOT friendly! I dropped off my luggage around 10:30 am (which seemed to cause the ladies some pain, but they did take the luggage). When I arrived after midnight (remember the days are very long in Moscow in the summer) the older lady bixxxxx me out for not checking in at 2pm (as she had told me earlier). She assumed that I would stop my tour of Moscow to come back to the hotel to check in-NOT!

On balance, the location and price made up for the crabbiness.

BTW, bring a washcloth-for some reason Russia hotels/river cruise boats do not supply these.

I had NO security issues during my 2.5 wk stay in Russia, the visit turned my preconceived thoughts about Russia on its head! I would go back in a NY minute.

I paid in cash to avoid the credit card up charge-Citibank has lots of locations/ATMs in Russia-no ATM fee if you have a Citi acct.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay. For the price and location it was worth it for us even though we don't usually like to share bathrooms as none of the rooms here have their own bathroom. Although this never posed a problem as we never had to wait to use the bathroom. We found the front desk workers to be friendly and Svetlana speaks a little bit of English.

Pros: It was nice being walking distance to all the main sites. The bathrooms are clean. Kamergersky street has a lot of cafés and restaurants. Was nice saving some money on hotel costs compared to other places in the central area as we found food to be expensive in Moscow.

Cons: shared bathroom, Internet was hit or miss

It was very difficult to find this hotel. We got a cab at the Airport Taxi Stand at DME and it was 1100 rubles. Our taxi driver was great. He said that the hotel is on a pedestrian only street and he dropped us off and said good luck. He was very nice, but it did take a little while for us to find the Home Hotel since there is no sign signaling that there is a Hotel on the 3rd floor. There was a sign that said Pharos on the right of the door and a red sign that said FLOWROX on the left side of the door. The #5 to signify the place on 5 Pereulok, was written in roman numerals as V so of course we walked past it twice. We tried to use the code pad to get in (2657), but eventually the lady security guard inside, just came and opened the door. The door to the building was inbetween a health food shop and I think a Cinnabon or a cafe (to me, who can't read cyrillic looked like it said "wokoaAAHnu cafe"). We took the elevator to the 3rd floor, and there was a door with the word, OTenb and we went in and from there everything was good. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to red square and a 15 minute walk to the Nikulin Circus and a 10 minute walk to the Sanduny Baths (which were just as difficult to find as this place).

The hotel is nothing fancy. I did leave a my Moscow travel guide in the bookshelf for other English-speaking travelers. It is shared bathrooms, but I never had to wait to get into one of them. All in all, the location is so perfect, and the price is so budget-friendly, that you can't go wrong with the place for a few days. Wifi was free, but it would keep going in and out. When we would tell the receptionist, she would reset it and it would work again. I wouldn't want to stay here more than a week.

We did ask the receptionist to arrange a taxi for us to the airport since we had a lot of luggage. I think it cost us about 1200 rubles to get to VKO airport. (These prices are averages because I can't remember exactly). The driver showed up right on time and we were at the airport in about 30 minutes.

Excellent location - very central and extremely good value for such a great location. Very clean and tidy, friendly staff. It's not really like a hotel - more like a flat where you get your own room with a door that locks. We had a huge family room and shared the bathroom which was fine most of the time - we only once had to wait when someone was having a bath! Decor is interesting...
