“A place to make peace with yourself”

Memorial Park Pobeda
Ranked #4 of 85 things to do in Cheboksary
Attraction details

Memorial Park always had a special place in my heart. An everlasting flame in honour of those who fought in WW2 reminds me about courage, instinct to survive, kindness and strong will that our people never loose. Even today, newly married couples come here on their wedding day to pay respects. Glorious views of the city and overlooking Volga river attract people on their visit to Cheboksary.

Overlooking the Volga and downtown Cheboksary, the Memorial-Park sits atop one of the highest points of the city. It offers an incredible view of downtown, the river port, the far banks of the Volga, and the bay. This park is a must-see for all interested in the Second World War and its meaning to the Russian people. This park is the centerpiece of the city's May 9th (Victory Day) celebrations, but on any given day there are always plenty of visitors who come to admire its monuments. The central monument of the park houses an eternal flame dedicated to the heroes of the war and many come here to give their respect to their ancestors who were involved in that brutal conflict. Life size replicas of tanks, artillery pieces, helicopters, etc... line the wooded alleys of the park. Young children are allowed to climb atop them visualizing themselves as their heroic ancestors. Bringing a camera here is a MUST. In addition to the WW2 memorials, there are a few monuments and memorial plaques dedicated to the sons of Cheboksary who perished in more recent conflicts. All in all, if you happen to visit this beautiful city a quick detour to this park will leave you with a deep understanding of the respect this people have for their veterans.
