Considering the hotel:
2 Very positive notes:
The seafood restaurant was amazing The Italian restaurant was good and tasty.
The beds and the rooms were super comfortable and we had no issue with the T.V nor the air-conditioner.
The hotel is rundown but it did not bother me

The staff was friendly, they made an effort to comply

The salad bar was repetitive on a daily base over 30 assortments
The hot meal buffet selection was satisfactory, but because of the number of guests food was all over the counters
Desert section no innovation, mostly plaque deserts cut into portions
No ice cream and jello was only served in the morning
The morning breakfast provided all the basics with no thrills
We were unaware their large salt water pool was in construction that was a disappointment
The beach not friendly to debutante swimmers
The beach was rugged, shells and seaweeds and at places volcanic sand
Any issue which we had it was resolved eventually meaning the staff responded
The chairs along the swimming pool and the beach needs a major clean up
These comments will hopefully make the management aware of some of our experiences that could have also occurred to other guests

Day one no shower mat nor face towels
Day two only one chair in the balcony and that was broken
First time in our lives there was no shower cap for the ladies in the bathroom
Day two no towels until seven in the evening
Had to go next door where the electrical panel was to replace the breaker because we had no electricity
For 3 days we had to go back and forward at least once a day to reprogram our electronic keys
For two days we had no hot water
Although the hotel is kids friendly, we assumed the end of September not too many tourists. But, to our dismay for $30 a day the hotel was accessible to any person and their families. The abundance of the children running around wild placed another dumper to a classic state of mind traveling to a relaxing vacation
I keep asking myself what other calamity awaited us had we not met the director general Mr. Barron and Mr. Carlos the owner of the hotel

I have to say..the bar and restaurant staff are GREAT. The Food was wonderful in the buffet area. The beach food..was the WORST. Stale chips and if you don't eat meat..there are no good choices. Chips stale and no salsa. Lettuce needed help and it was really only for the burgers..no dressing if you didn't eat meat. All places need to think about people that do not eat meat options. Room was fine for one night..nice a cool.
Beach was not something I would have stayed here for..Needed some work readjusting the layout!??!

Stayed for a week in August as a single parent, 8/10-8/16. Reading the reviews, I figured this was a budget hotel with imperfect facilities & service but decent food. Okay. I kept my expectations accordingly low and did not want to be just another complaining gringo. But...

I can't. Just can't. Even if the price was right, I wouldn't go back to Playa Blanca and cannot recommend it. See what else you can find for a comparable amount. Fork out a little more money. Find a better place. You deserve it.

Dealbreakers:

- Thin walls in the rooms + family resort with lots of kids + TV audible at low volume = noisy nights. What good is a resort if you can't sleep well?

- The beach area is really black and terribly designed, which is funny for a place called 'Playa Blanca' (la playa NO ES blanca at all!). So it's generally better to hang out by the various pools. ...Which begs the question: why did I come all the way here if we cannot enjoy a beach?

- And then the Kids' pool is not well-maintained (insufficiently chlorinated & not cleaned regularly). Water was milky white for several days, and then some green algae appeared at the bottom at some point. Really?! Yes, really! - Cue ear infection! - Eeeeeeeeeeew.

Other minor irritants:

- The other reviews are sometimes excessive, but will give you the gist. Service is, indeed, imperfect (lots of minor lapses). Some minor repairs are, indeed, required around the facilities. Hotel needs some love.

Good points

- Gotta hand it to them: the food was generally very good. The buffet was suitably varied and tasty, with healthy choices. The a la carte restaurants were a notch above and very good.

- The staff is friendly and helpful, though you gotta ask.

- *Lots* of kids, so your own offspring can make friends quickly. Friendly people. Lots of locals, especially on weekends, and visitors from the rest of Latin America, who are interesting to meet. Speaking Spanish makes things easier but there is a friendly vibe all-around.

=> But the positives do not offset the negatives enough. Really, try somewhere else.

It is an OK place. The staff at the front desk was not very friendly. Had the "could care less" attitude. The first night we had towels in the room (2) two coffees, one bottled water (for two people). The next night, no towels, no mat for the shower, one coffee, one bottled water. As the week continued, the housekeeping got worse. Had to call or go to the front desk to ask for towels, coffee, mat, water. No face towel or hand towel provided. Once you asked for them, hold on to them , because you will never see them again. Our package included transportation to an from the airport. Days before we were due to depart, I stopped at the front desk to confirm pick up to the airport. Was told that there was nothing indicating that we had transportation included. (We were picked up at the airport) so go figure. The next day, I showed them my paperwork indicating transportation. Again, nothing. they had to call our travel agent to confirm. It took ten minutes to walk from where we stayed to the buffet. No information given letting us know what was available and where. They have the salt water pool, but only available to the residents. Found the so call :gym" by mistake. The staff at the buffet was very friendly especially the daytime supervisor Rossi. She made up for all the bad and indifferent staff.
