A good night's rest but inconvenient in many ways

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 28 Feb 2019
Let's start with the good news: the mattress and pillows are comfortable and the premises are clean.

Now the bad news:
1. The locker rooms are located so far from the beds and bathrooms that one must hope not to forget anything lest have to trek back to the lockers from the bed or bath to retrieve the item. This is a major inconvenience. Why aren't the lockers located close to the showers?
2. The bathrooms do not have dry areas for changing. It would be nice if there was a separate but adjoining dry area in each shower stall to leave their clothes while showering and to change in once done showering. Or at the very least, have a separate common changing area in the bathrooms.
3. Staff really didn't give much of a briefing in check in. No mention of the availability of slippers or earplugs. Vague directions to navigate the maze of capsules to find one's assigned pod. Also, no mention of the available amenities like the reading room. There were signs for a bar/dining room, but I never found it either.

Given that the capsule concept is widespread, it is confusing to think that no one studied the typical convenient layout of capsule hotels around the world. This hotel fails on these many accounts.

-price could be cheaper for late checkin 6 hours stay .
6hours 115RM,while 12 hours is 125RM its kind of subtle way of forcing you to stay for 12 hours
-its for people who doesnt want to lose the most morning flight...at 4am people already wake up and make noise...so if your flight is > 8am...you will wake up at 4 am too....
-toilet lock door mekanism is horrible,it is easly opened from the outside...people wrongly twice open my toilet door...

but beside all of the above...it is the best option other than sleeping in the airport floor...

Grateful that the staff (Ariff & a Nepalese male) took especial care of me when an unruly/drunk? guest tried to cause trouble for me- by escorting me, housing me in a different section from the unruly guest, etc.

The hotel is very clean & the beds very comfortable to rest in- all quintessentials for passengers in transit.

As the name “capsule” suggests, it is bound to be a little challenging when it comes to finding space- so, it would be suitable for the guest with good organisational abilities, or, the guest with little needs:)

As a fan of tiny houses, small spaces, and minimalist spaces I was excited to try the capsule experiece but was sadly disappointed. All the problems faced by small spaces were present here with little effort made to mitigate the effects.

When checking in we were given little instruction. We were told we should take our (carry on) luggage to our room/capsule. This resulted in a tiny room filled with backpacks, toiletries, while whe tried to plan pur outfit for thw next day. This could have been avoided by briefing us on what we needed to take in, placing our unnecessary thing in the lockers (otherwise wjat are the lockers for), and supplying some pjs so whe needed to carry even less.

The worst part is other guests had the same experience. So while we were sleeping people where fumbling in their rooms, trying to figure out what they need to take to the bathroom in a tiny space.

The room was very comfy, so was the bed and pillows. So when Igot to bed I slept like a baby. The use of stainless steel cladding in the bathroom made it feel clean.

I really wanted to enjoy my experience but sadly all the problems of small spaces were not conaidered. Some attention needs to be paid to designing a better guest experience.

Things that can be improved:
-communication, some sort of briefing is needed so that guests are better prepared for the experience. Informing them of the process, the pitfalls, and etiquette.
-the bathrooms need to be maintained better. The equipment is clearly failing. Also include a hanger for clothes.
-the fan in the room sounds like a hoover.
-Slippers and earplugs should be present, why do guests have to request such things?
-the blind/door of the capsule is a bad design, it is noisy, does not insulate against light or sound, and just feels poorly thought out.

So much wanted to enjoy the experience but was sadly disappointed. All my concerns with using a small space were not addressed. From storage to sound and the disorganisation.

- I was not even greeted during check-in as it appeared as though the person on duty was more tired than I was.
- Very little instruction was given on how to proceed through the capsule. It was our first time.
- We didn't get to put our backpacks in the lockers. The guy at the desk said we can take it with us which he thought was a good idea. Even though it was just two bags, it took up so much space inside the capsule and made the experience feel like a camp.
- There was no mention of slippers or earplugs or even a wake up call at the reception.
- There was also no mention of capsule etiquette such as to be quiet and respect other guests who might be using the space to get some sleep since that is what you are paying for. There should be no conversation nor music being played and guests should keep noise to a minimum.
+ location is good and somewhat easy to find.

- Room felt like a shoebox because of all of our luggage we took with us. We had to unpack our things in an even smaller space, instead of just being told what to take with us or taking a few things with us that were essential.
- There was no mention of complimentary slippers for the showers so we had to use our own, adding to the already cluttered space.
+ The bed was comfortable and the pillows too which I enjoyed. Bedding was clean too. When I finally fell asleep it was good.
- Fan in the room was too loud and disturbed our sleep so we kept it off.
- The blind to close the capsule has a heavy plastic attachment at its end which makes a loud bang if it makes contact with the steel container. This was a huge problem as the sound wakes you from your sleep and is absolutely pointless for this capsule system.
- There was also too much light entering the capsule because the blind didn't cover the entire door entrance.
- Guests that arrived after us were so noisy and there was no proof of soundproofing the room. I could hear every rattle of their bags, every knock, every word. It was so annoying.
- When my sleep had been broken twice, I dialled "0" to request earplugs but the line just rang. I gave up after 5 minutes and went to get toilet paper instead just so that I got some rest at least. I paid $50 to get some sleep afterall.

- The bathroom wasn't bad but it was just too small to change your clothes.
- There was only one hook to hang your clothes, personal toiletries and towel. Seriously!! How do I keep my change of clothes dry with only one hook for everything.
- There was not enough space to get dressed.
- There was also a lack of maintenance in shower 2 with the broken shower head holder and soap dispenser at the sink. It took away from the professionalism of the place.
+ appreciated the towel and toothbrush and the clean toilets too.

Overall, the place is not ideal if your aim is to get some sleep during your layover. Best get a hotel room. I left sleep deprived and disappointed after a short 6 hour stay. The capsule itself is beautifully laid out but travelers needs ought to be fully considered for it to be a stellar capsule hotel.

I'm going to start by saying it was pretty good in terms of a place to crash between flights, but there were so many little things that could be improved with a tiny modicum of thought.

The "industrial chic" design inside shipping containers means that there is a lot of hollow metal which dongs sonorously every time someone touches it. It's a bit late to fix but....

I'm grateful for the succession of security doors, but is it absolutely necessary they should open with a beep? And clang shut? Disconnect the buzzers and pad the door frames!

The "capsule" is a metre square plywood and steel box, 15cm bigger than a standard single bed mattress. It was scrupulously clean and the bed was really comfortable. A roller blind created privacy. There was a drop down "table" but it dropped so far nothing would stay on it. There was a single plug socket, but in between flights I had multiple things to charge. Just an additional USB port would have made things much easier. There was a built in box for valuables if you were the sort of prepared traveller that carries a padlock with you.

The luggage lockers are OUTSIDE the secure sleeping zone, so don't forget anything because otherwise you'll find yourself lugging your bags around in a fairly crowded public place in a towel.

The lockers were pretty generous and they had extra storage for additional or oversize cases.

I liked the shampoo/shower gel dispensers in the shower but don't understand why there was nowhere to hook the shower head up. You had to hold it all the way through your wash. There is only one hook inside the cubicle. I was juggling the clothes I was taking off, the towel, and the clothes I was putting on (along with a pair of sneakers) and trying not to get anything wet.

They must have some deal with the mattress company because there were adverts for them everywhere. If I was in a position to be buying a mattress in KL, I wouldn't be staying at the capsule overnight! The adverts all had super unhelpful suggestions on how to get a good nights sleep. Nowhere did it say "Don't fly across 9 timezones".

They gave everyone a bag containing a towel, a disposable toothbrush and a bottle of water. There was nowhere to refill either it or your own. Tea or Coffee on the premises would have been very welcome, but was also sadly not available.

Finally to the thing that really dragged this review down for me. There was no useful information that people who were breaking a journey might like to know. Which airlines fly from which terminal? How long does the shuttle bus between terminals take and when does it run? Where do you catch the KLIA express or the bus to wherever? Where might be open for food at 3am? The staff didn't know anything useful and said "we're a hotel, not an information counter." Having stayed at similar flop-shops at airports all over the world I thought that was well below the bar.

If I'm passing through again, for the money, I'll stay at the tune hotel. It's only 100m away and the doors don't beep.
