Great place for meeting with orangutans (during feeding time). If you visit Sarawak area you have to see that!

We booked a tour to see the Orangutans and Kayaking.
Well it takes time and patience but it is very rewarding to be able to see the Orangutans in their habitat. We were lucky enough to see a female with her little one and 2 males. I said lucky because it was fruits season and they have plenty to eat and don't need to come when the rangers call them for feeding session. Take a sweat rag it was very humid, bug spray and sunscreen were very usefull.

If you're a true nature lover, you won't find any fault with this nature reserve. If you're not, you'll find countless faults. You have to understand what a nature reserve's functions are, so that you won't expect unreasonable expectations. You'll also have to be prepared for some disappointments because this nature reserve, or any nature reserve for that matter, is not designed to satisfy your expectations. I've gone there uncountable times over a stretch of several years. For most (human) visitors, the main reason is to see orang utan in their real wild environment. Sometimes, you see more of them, other times you only see too few of them. In my visits I never follow any feeding times because, hey, even when you visit (unannounced) human beings in their homes, you may not find them in. Seeing the natural, authentic dwelling place of the orang utan is rewarding enough for me. A rule of thumb: don't visit the animal reserve during fruit season of plenty. That's when they can fend for themselves with fruits aplenty in the jungle. So they don't need to "come home" to be fed by humans in the reserve. Just enjoy the lovely jungle walk and appreciate those dedicated staffers who dutifully (and with love) feed the orang utan and other wild animal residents there. I consider it a bonus when I see even just one orang utan coming in to be fed, or coming back after its "failed hunting trip" to check on their dwelling place.

We saw a beautiful orangutan straight away even though the guide said it would be unlikely at this time of year because the animals have access to their own fruit and tend not to get it from the humans!

The orangutans are free to roam freely and only depend on humans when they have low access to fruits in the forest. A wonderful experience for the whole family and a quick experience, still enough time to do something else in the afternoon.
Would definitely recommend!! But don’t be upset if you don’t see them it means they are full of fruit!
