It was rather an expensive stay but it was worth it. The hotel room was clean. The toilet was humongous and clean. view from my room was quite good too. hotel lobby was welcoming. breakfast served was nice too. i remember i love their chocolate donuts the most. happy with my stay and will definitely patronise again

I have never seen such a dirty five star hotel.
The rooms, bathrooms and hallways were dirty and unhygienic.
Our company rented four rooms and all were in the same condition.
Bedding was clean.

Stayed at the Magellan Sutera in Feb 2012, friendly staff, excellent 5 star facilities and at a very reasonable price. Good choice of restaurants, happy hour 5-7pm (2 for one cocktails!), 24 hour room service. Overall we felt everything we could possibly want was catered for. Great shopping in town, very cheap. Definitely go out to the islands - great snorkelling and jet-skiing!

Only negatives:
Rooms are quite dark and our room was much too cold, aircon played up. Small TVs in room.
Little hard to find best places to shop in town, and streets are typical smelly SE Asia, made me long for Singapore streets.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near to breakfast. Make use of the connecting resorts (Sutera and golf club) as they...

Stayed here twice over our holiday (At the Pacific), the hotel is set in a stunning location, the facilities are very high quality and they are just as you would expect from a hotel that markets itself as a 5 star hotel. Staff are excellent and very helpful, any issues we had were immediately sorted. We would happily stay here again.

The but...... everything is expensive once inside. Any extras, food particularly were expensive when you compare it directly to eating the same food in the city. The shuttle bus into the city was an excellent service, but getting home is more of a risk as the buses run hourly and it is first come first serve. Plus there are some gaps - no bus at 1900 for example. If I were a cynic it would be so that people cannot easily get into town at evening meal time - making them eat in the hotel. But I may be wrong.

But if budget isn't an issue or western food is what you are looking for then that is not a problem. Just remember that every price you are quoted (as everywhere in Borneo) has 16% put onto it service charge and tax. This includes hotel rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony

The hotel consists actually of large hotels, 1 golf club with 27 wholes and a large marina.
Between the two hotels one can choose all kind of sports facilities, various pools( one olympic size), tennis courts, golf courses and Gyms. The various restaurants from coffee shop, leisurely
mediterranean to Chinese fine dining offer all kind of possibilities for a variety of foods and never boring. A nice cafe Muffinz with good coffee, shakes, cakes, smoothies are part of the variety of foods one can enjoy.
The rooms are spacious, the bath rooms have a bath tub and a nice large shower separately and the bath room amenities are first class. The only little short coming is the relatively small sand beach but one can use the free of charge shuttle to one island belonging to the resort with ample sandy beach and the large lawn areas in front of the beach and the sea.
The resort is impeccably clean and even the water in the marina is so clear one can even see all kind of tropical fishes and live coral. One can hardly find any little piece of trash since there is a constant cleaning going on.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Magellan Wing are newer than in the Pacific Sutera and have mostly balconies.
