Manukan Island Day Trip from Kota Kinabalu

We spent the last four days doing trips over to Manukan from Sutera Marina for diving and snorkeling with ‘Down Below’.

Although not as well known as Gaya Island, Manukan is highly recommended as the resort facilities are great and the beach immaculate.

A very relaxing spot, beautifully cared for by the friendly staff - everything you could wish for.

Unlike Sapi Island, Manukan Island is far longer and spacious which allows people to be more separated to swim freely instead of being cramped in one space.
The water was beautiful and transparent blue just what you’d expect to see from all the photos and advertisement. Not to mention the beach was clean as well with little to no trash at all.
We tried their Water activities which was the Parasailing and it was super fun and affordable. The crews were funny and helpful.
If you are hungry there are restaurants and cafes to stop by however they are over priced which is understandable.
Recommended to visit if you are looking for a beautiful & exotic beach to swim and relax.

The rubbish in the ocean is a problem beyond the control of the resort clearly. That said, there could be some education offered and indeed some initiatives around the place to ensure that the guests/visitors do their part to assist the matter, the amount of rubbished dump on island is bad and there appears little option to fix this. Get some bins, get some signs up and adopt a no tolerance policy. It seems a lot of operations are scared to offend the wave of Chinese Public that come, smoke continuously and flick their butts wherever they please, and their water bottles and food wrappers along with them. I think its time to stand up to this or risk losing the future of these venues.

The Manukan Island is such a nice and relaxing getaway. You have to get a ticket at the pier for the boat ride, which takes approximately 20 minutes only. The island is not too crowded in a Monday afternoon. The water is clear enough to look at the fish swimming around.
