A beautifully restored Chinese shop house now the lovely Areca Hotel. The hotel has retained some of the beautiful features with lots of solid timber furniture.
Incorporated in the renovation are some lovely stained glass windows, ceramic urns and vases.
Breakfast was included in the tariff however limited. Individual choices not a buffet from cooked breakfast - eggs etc. noodles, soup and muesli and toast. It was quite adequate and freshly made on request.
The staff were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They sat with us and showed us some of the best places for hawkers stalls and foodie place within walking distance to the hotel.
In the foyer and around the hotel were dispensers of chilled filtered water flavoured with cucumber and lemon-sooooo refreshing after walking around the quaint street of Georgetown.
Our room was on the first floor and there was a lift if you need help with stairs. Toiletries were supplied, hair dryer, safe, fridge, tea and coffee facilities. The room was very clean and the shower had both rain shower and hand held.
A great way to experience the heritage of yesteryear. Would recommend a stay, location was great close to KOMTAR, free shuttle bus and bus depot.
