Once you have taken your photos of the national bird, there is not much else to see Nearby there is a fairly large shopping area selling local and imported items, from souvenirs to household goods.

Eagle Square or better known as “Dataran Lang” to the locals is one of Langkawi’s manmade iconic landmark. It is located in Kuah town, near the jetty. It opens 24 hours & admission is free.

According to folklore history, Langkawi’s name was taken from the word “Helang” & “Kawi” which means eagle & reddish brown, respectively. At this popular square, you can see a 40-feet statue of a reddish brown eagle about to fly off a star-shaped platform.

While the square can be windy, consider going in the evening as it could get very hot in the day. My friends & I arrived at 6 pm in time to catch the sunset. We took many photos with the eagle in the background. It was quite a challenge to take that perfect photo as the place was full with tourists & locals. A photo-shoot of a blushing bride was also in progress.

Dataran Lang provides a beautiful view of the bay that opens out to the sea with the mountains in the background. For those taking the ferry to Langkawi, they will see the eagle first. It is as if they are being greeted by the eagle. Eagle Square has miniature fountains but many were not working. As for the shops, they were closed since it was already late. It is a tourist spot not to be missed if you want to get some awesome photos.

nothing really there, just the statue which you can take a picture and leave :) no activities, no nice places to sit , people are just taking pictures and go.

Was a lot bigger than I expected. Impressive sculpture. Good photo spot. The square itself is very well kept but more could be made of the surrounding area to make it worth hanging around a bit longer. Was very disappointed with how run down the adjacent park is.
