What a great place and thanks to TripAdvisor for the recommendation. This is truly a family/small business operation with amazingly friendly and warm staff who really care. Walk in and get a warm greeting. You're issued with a plate of tempura and then go over to the counter where a lady asks you how much udon you want. You get your fresh udon made there, head over to scoop your own broth and put the condiments of your choice. You sit down and get a hot green tea or water and enjoy the communal and friendly atmosphere. It's a fast and cheap eat and you feel part of an experience and a community rather than 'just' a restaurant. Would definitely recommend.

Last minute visit before leaving Takamatsu at 14:30. Fortunately, there was no waiting line. We enjoyed Udon with tempura and half boiled egg at 500 yen. The texture of udon was soft and soup was great. You should not miss the tempura and egg which were also wonderful and matched udon well. I would thank the staff who kindly called the cab for us. Highly recommended.

You can find Chikusei by the long line of visitors waiting to get inside. Space to eat is limited, but service is fast and efficient, with customers seasoning the noodles to their own liking. This is one of the best udon restaurants in Takamatsu, with firm, hand-made noodles in a light soup that has pleasant flavor. Though the udon is good, the tempura makes the restaurant stand out.

I spent four day in Takamatsu and each day I ate sank udon from various restaurants. In my opinion this was the best. maybe intimidating at first if you are not Japanese or you can't speak Japanese, but the staff is very friendly. Choose the tempura or the toppings you like, the udon and decide if you want them cold or hot and with or without soup and enjoy your meal!! Really cheap, I paid less than 500yen.

Had a nomal size of udon and some kinds of Tempura for lunch only costs like 500 yen! I am actually from Takamatsu, and the place is famous udo restaurant in local.
If you are first time visitor, you may be confused because everything is self-service. However staff are really kind to explain howto.
Everytime I come to Takamatsu, I visit here and the taste fantastic. The place is popular and you may need to be on the line for a while, but it worth to wait.
