Hakone Ginyu is a definite splurge, but well worth it. we stayed there for three nights in August. This ryokan is located in a charming little village near Hakone. We had two different rooms - the place is very popular - and each was simply amazing. The first room was a two story, maisonette, with a terrace, onsen and spectacular view of the mountains. The second was on the ground floor, with a beautiful outdoor garden area and large outdoor and indoor onsens. Meals are served in your room, and they were wonderful - amazing multi-course Japanese kaiseki feasts. The service couldn't be better. And, there is a staff member from Sri Lanka who speaks perfect English. We have stayed in a number of ryokan over the years, but I doubt any will surpass Hakone Ginyu.

Room Tip: All of the rooms face the mountains, so I do not think you can go wrong.

Our plan to return to this fabulous ryokan. Since then we have traveled to Japan and still remember this wonderful place. The staff was gracious, the rooms clean, the food presentation and taste was above excellent. Our plan is to return there this December for another great vacation!

Room Tip: Room with a private onsen!

We cannot say enough amazing things about Hakone Ginyu. We had THE most amazing, unforgettable experience here. From the views to the food to the spa to the service - everything was TOP NOTCH!

The ryokan is absolutely beautiful, and the views are SPECTACULAR. The views all around the property are breathtaking, and it was so nice having a private onsen attached to our room. You feel like you are on a mountain in a rainforest, and the ambience is so relaxing and romantic. The public onsen for hotel guests was also stunning and an amazing experience.

Dinner is served in your hotel room, and the food is delicious. Everyone who works at the hotel is so friendly and cant do enough to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable.

This is one of the best hotel experiences we have ever had - worth every penny!!

We can't wait to go back!

Stayed here for two nights with my sister and teenage daughter. The teenager was a little phased but the open shower and Onsen, but us adults loved it. They catered for a vegetarian and coeliac! The food was fabulous and fresh. Lisa our hostess was very attentive and helpful. And given how badly it rained they didn't bat an eye at our sodden shoes!

Spent one night here with my wife on our hectic Japan 10 day family vacation. Left the kids with family in Tokyo and took the bullet train. Being our first Ryokan experience we have nothing to compare against but we have been to luxurious Four Season resorts all over the world and this place ranks up there in top 3 best places we have stayed. I did quite a bit of research prior to the trip to find the perfect Ryokan for the experience. 1. not too far from Tokyo so you can do on a day trip. 2. Close to Mt Fuji, for sightings, which we missed due to weather (Summer is not the best season for that). 3. Traditional Japanese rooms with private outdoor Onsen (hot spring bathing). 4. Not too big, crowded to have a sense of privacy. 5. Good food. Hakone Ginyu was the best choice, and it didn't disappoint. My wife loved it like crazy and I was pleasantly surprised as well for the qualit of the facilities. There is a lot attention to detail here. If you decide to come here go fully Japanese and try the traditional rooms for the Zen-like minimalistic experience. Eat and sleep on the floor.... Also get the room with private outdoor baths, but still try the Public Baths on the 5th floor for the experience. They are segregated clothing free baths with beautiful views. They swap gender rooms at 10pm so you can try both rooms. Maximize your stay here but also go out and explore the area if you have time. Visit the Hakone Open Air Museum for a treat of great art. Take the cable car to the top, then the ropeway to the lake, the boat across the lake and bus back up. The complete loop may take you 3 hrs but is worth it. Now fully charged again we ar on our way to rendezvous with rest of family and off to Kyoto and Hiroshima to finish our tour.
