Nice Hotel but Location is Retrictive

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Apr 2024
the Hotel is clean and the rooms are a good size, mini bar has a good selection. The small in room on-sen is lovely. The hotel will pick you up from the train station and drop you off. When we arrived at the station it was had to locate the the bus as all the large buses were parked together so we had to walk around a bit to locate the correct bus. The breakfast was your usual standard breakfast with all the regular pickings you get from a buffet. Dinner was nice but not cheap. staff are friendly and accommodating. They have a car that will drop you off to the local train station Gora so that you can access transport to all the local sights. The only issue that wee found was they stop the vehicle service at 6pm and there are no taxi's so if you want to eat dinner else where that is not possible as due to the hotel location you cannot walk anywhere.

Upscale hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room and bed with in-room onsen. Daily maid service. Hakone is a beautiful and hilly town. There are steps one can take to go up to the Gora train/cable car station but not possible with luggage. They operate an on demand pick uo service from the station and around the area. They also offer a shuttle to Odawara. Both are very convenient. The restaurant and bar are upscale as well. One of the best parts is the public onsen. Large, clean, luxurious and just awesome. Would highly recommend.

Wow wow wow, I would give this hotel 6 stars if I could! We stumbled our way in after spending a week walking 25k+ steps around Tokyo and then doing the whole Hakone "loop," tired and bedraggled. We were greeted with the friendliest staff in a gorgeous hotel and heard the most beautiful words: "we have a foot spa." The rooms are very spacious and the private onsen is magical - I could have stayed in there all night. The public onsen has 3 different baths of different temperatures and was super relaxing - and they allow tattoos! The foot spa is outdoors with a lovely view of the river, and you do not have to go out there in your robe and bathing suit like us goobers did. We had dinner at the hotel too and it was fabulous. I was so sad that we only stayed one night and I really wanted to extend our stay! If we are ever back in Gora we will definitely be staying here.

Room tip: They do have a shuttle service, so if you arrive at the Gora tram you can request a pickup instead of walking down a million stairs

The overall experience was great. I almost enjoyed all the facilities and services here. The room was clean, spacious and modern. Bed was comfy. Looks exactly like it is on the website.

The bath and shower area was spacious, just a little pity that the onsen bathtub was a bit too small for two people. I stayed in the river view room and there were some house opposite the river, so we had to draw curtains down during bath. Not a problem at all. It was windy on the first night and the bamboo curtain keep moving during the bath time. But second night was nice and calm.

Staff was polite and friendly. I used the free transfer service to and from Gora station. Just walk to the reception or give a call and the car will be ready in 5min. Special thank you to the driver who picked us up at the Gora station at 18:15 (service time was until 18:00, my apologies to be late due to long queue at the Lake and therefore had to wait for the next bus). There were hardly any taxis at Gora station and I did not walk back to hotel as it was dark and very cold.

Free shuttle bus from Odawara station takes about 40 min.

As other reviews said, there were no much shops or restaurants in walking distance. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant for two nights. The staff can communicate in English and provided great service. The food was amazing. It's surely worth the price. I also had two breakfasts and there were wide selection of western and Japanese dishes. Food was great too. One suggestion, I wish they provide Japanese food in dinner.

Like other Japanese hotel, the toilet area is separated from bathroom. I would suggest them to add hand wash soap in the toilet.

I went to the public onsen where you need to wear swimming suit and I was the only one using it at 8am. I didn't use the onsen part but there is also a sauna there which is quite nice.

I also used the gym at 8am and I was the only one. Equipment was nice and clean. Good enough for a quick exercise.

A bit disappointed for me as I’m someone who enjoys Japanese culture- hope there will be some changes from meer modern Western Hotel to something more Japanese in this hotel, like local snacks, cuisines, landscaping

Pros :
New hotel
Nice furnishings
Larger rooms ( we got the suites )
Day time offer free water coffee and tea at lobby
Staff can speak English
Hotel Shuttle to Gora station is prompt
Modern style onsen for both genders
Must wear swim wear in onsen
In room hot bath

Cons:
Location - tucked away from the tourist attractions and hard to access unless by taxi or hotel cars as walking is unsafe as the path is steep and not properly maintained
So called Mountain and river views - mainly into carparks and nearby apartments
Completely non-Japanese restaurants
Onsen is sterile with no outdoor landscaping unlike most high end resorts
Sound proofing for rooms inadequate - can hear the kids running in the corridor and the sound of the river

Room tip: Drive there ! Bring your own Japanese snacks

I was a bit apprehensive with some of the mixed reviews. And tossed up here versus the Hyatt. However was very happy with our stay as a family of four (7 and 10 year old).

Wished we had more time to enjoy after our long day on the Hakone loop. Went counterclockwise, from Hakone Yumoto to Motohakone and ended up at Gora. We made our way there after the Open Air museum on the bus and it was very easy to navigate. Got dropped off the bottom and then 2 mins up the hill.

The service was commendable - the welcome drink appreciated. Anything you asked for they responded immediately. Accommodation was very comfortable with a river view and an outdoor personal onsen bath which was quite a highlight.

The food was delicious; we had dinner and breakfast - excellent quality and worth it, as high end. Nice to see dining in Yukatas.

I did wish the public onsen was traditional but knew coming prior it was shared. The foot bath outside was lovely.

Note on transfers - they can send you to Odawara or Gora on their shuttle as a compliment however it did not fit in our schedule. However - it is so easy to jump on a bus to take you back to Hakone Yumoto or Odawara itself.

Wished we had stayed a bit longer!

Room tip: Make sure you try the in room onsen bath and dine in your yakuta!
