Great service overall, just need to improve on food and beverage quality and service

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 26 Mar 2017via mobile
This is our first time staying at Hakone and it's a great hotel we chose especially the suite 103 with separate room on lower deck for shower and hot spring onsen. In addition, there's a Massage chair in room, a nice terrace with waterfall feature and overall good service from all staff.

They can improve in their bathroom amenities and can certainly improve on their food and service quality as both dinners and breakfasts were only standard with no wow factors.

Overall a great hotel if they can improve on their cuisines.

My wife and I spent a night at this small boutique ryokan in Hakone area which close proximity of Tokyo. It took less than 2 hours to get the the place and was easy to find the place even if it was our first visit.

First Impression: We parked our car outside the parking lot, hoping for staff to come out and greet us. This didn't happen for some reason. Once we stepped in for check-in, it felt as if we were in a hotel lobby. Right, that makes sense. Nobody will come out to greet customers in a hotel. Served with hot tea and a light snack.

Room: We were placed in a room with twin beds on the second floor of the facility. Big enough for two people. Best of it all was the fact that there is a open air hot springs bath attached to the room and a shower booth next to it.

Dinner: Super delicious, well presented ingredients. My wife loved her 'Matsutake' mushroom soup and I loved my sirloin steak marinated with red wine sauce. From the start to finish, we so much enjoyed every dish.

Hot Stone Spa: We were given a choice to choose either a private hot springs spa or hot stone spa for 1 hour. Since we have our own in our room, we decided to go for the hot stone spa and it was the right choice. The room is provided with two chilling ciders for your thirst with complete privacy. We spent 1 full hour enjoying the hot stone spa and felt healthier and lighter.

Breakfast: More than enough for two people to handle. Lots of varieties. Never lets me down.

Price: On the higher end, but with this quality and service; you get what you pay for.

Visited in May 2012. Very normal, given my high expectation. Room was just fine - we stayed at one of their biggest room but was not amazing or anything. Normal clean/modern room. They had a massage chair in the bedroom where I spent most of my time and loved it.
Dinner was quite normal as well. Their attraction is to serve stuff delivered directly from Hokkaido, but the sea urchin and abalone that I had had quite strong fishie smell and could not have them.
Outside bath had a sulfur spring and the water was quite different from our private bath. Highly recommend to try this outside bath!
