“Gorgeous building and nice icecream”

Trappistine Monasteries
Reviewed 20 July 2017

Located in a nice hillock (that's why Commodore M.C. Perry choose here?),
with a wonderful European architecture looking, this peaceful place can set you calm, refreshing your soul......(the rumor said the sister there don't speak)
Remember to go to the cafe which next to the church, there is a very nice ice-cream you should try.

Come for the history, stay for the cookies! It was really interesting to see what is essentially the birthplace of Christianity in Hokkaido. There is a gift shop selling many varieties of the famous Trappistine cookies here, and the prices are much more reasonable than the vendors at the Morning Market or in the city proper. It's about a 25 minute bus ride from Hakodate Station, but the Yunokawa onsen area is on the way so we stopped there on our way back and killed two birds with one stone.

A nice convent with good view from the top of the convent. Nice gardens and worth a visit if you enjoy a walk or stroll or if you really have nothing much to do in Hakodate.

The drive to the monastery from Hakodate was very scenic along the coast and the road leading to the monastery was very nice as well. When we arrived we were one of two groups visiting. There is a relatively steep hill leading to the front gate but was well worth the hike. The building was lovely to look at and the view from the top of the hill was also nice. We enjoyed some ice cream made from the milk produced on site. It was very tranquil. It's a place that won't take long to look around but I highly recommend going by car.

This is a place where nuns live quiet life without outside's intervention. Stature of archangel welcomes you when you enter the ground. You won't see too much but buildings are beautiful. Nuns make living by making/selling sweets at gift shop so please buy something. Chocolate is to die for!! And you only can buy here. It is not available anywhere but here! If you love chocolate, try it!
