Top level hotel in japanese tradition. Nice dry garden and beautifyl room with view on the river . Excellent service. Unique. Unfortunately the dinner is not yet at the level of one star michelin guide.

Beautiful Ryokan right on the river in Matsue. Stayed for 2 nights and had a very nice and spacious room with a view over their beautiful sand garden, ranked as one of the nicest in Japan, and over the river. Food was just great, although as non-japanese we did not appreciate all the minute details. Don't miss Matsue castle !

Service from welcome to departure without equal. Every need anticipated before you even think of it.
Cuisine to rival or exceed the quality of most Michelin starred restaurants across the world that we have eaten in. The choice of ingredients, the cooking and presentation just sublime whether for dinner or breakfast. The head chef, Hideharu Sato, and his team are outstanding.
Room more than spacious, excellent design and with a lovely view over the gardens across Lake Shinji towards the Shimane Art Museum and in the mornings you see the local fishermen dredging for shellfish. Splash out on a room with an onsen and you can enjoy this view whilst soaking away all your cares.
If you stay here for two or more days consider renting a small car. You can reach Matsue and its castle by walking and the outlying attractions by public transport but the timings restrict how many you can see in a day whereas all are easily reachable by car and this Ryokan has a parking lot.

Room Tip: All have a great view across the lake, just decide if you want/can afford an onsen of your own.

This was my 4th time in this excellent set up. The service still outstanding. Overall a unique experience. If something worths a comment, that is a kind of renovation need in old armchairs in rooms, or old blankets.

Beautiful spot in central Matsue, with views of the water and fishing boats from the room. The garden is magnificent---ranked number 8 in Japan.

Room is Japanese-style, and the futon mattresses are super comfortable.

Food is nothing short of extraordinary. Set menus of local delicacies.

The onsen is delightful.

And the level of service is phenomenal, even for a country where service levels are high. Staff speak some English, but not proficiently.

We spent 2 nights---enjoyed seeing Adachi Museum and Matsue castle---and we left feeling we had had a genuine Japanese experience.

Go!
