Comfortable stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Feb 2019
Stayed here for 3 nights. Hotel gave me a room on high floor with an amazing view of the city. Room was clean and comfortable but very small even though I've booked a semi double room B. I had some problems with my 2 26 inch luggage. So if you have more than 2 larger than a 26 inch luggage, do not chose this room size.

For ladies, note that the hotel do not provide shower cap. Collect your bath cloth, cotton pads/buds, tea/coffee/sugar/creamer at the lobby.

No 2nd pillows provided in room.

I regretted buying their breakfast plan. Breakfast voucher is only used at the ground level lobby at a cafe across the train concourse from the hotel. It's a toast or waffle set with tea/coffee. If you are staying more than 2 days, I suggest having your breakfast at a boulangerie next to this cafe which opens at 7am or other cafes on the other levels which usually open at around 10 am.

The best part of this hotel is it is convenient, right inside the train station. If you are exiting from a Shinkansen or Express train station, turn left after the fare-gate, walk a few meters and you'll see the hotel sliding door on the right corner.

The Via Inn Kanazawa is literally about 20m to your left when exit the Shinkansen gate. It is in the station and you just have to go up to the third floor for the Hotel lobby. The rooms are small (typical in Japan) but very clean. Contains a fridge and a couple of hanging pegs. Note that almost everything is written in Japanese and the staff know only a small amount of English (my Japanese is even less). Very handy to get the free JR bus that takes you to the Kanazawa Castle, Kenroku-en Garden, Omicho Market and others.

Room tip: The window can be fully opened or there is a clip that can allow a slight breeze.

Can't fault this hotel, if I'd paid attention to the reviews I would have known it was right inside the station (I went out of the exits looking) but it really is around the middle of the station through a set of automatic sliding doors. You don't have to go outside at all.

Room clean, although compact (limited room for luggage, but these appears common for many hotels in Japan). Good value for what you get, you wouldn't know you were in a station.

Quite enjoyed getting breakfast in the German bakery near the Tourist Information, excellent value, and plenty of other choices within the station, especially during the day. There are also places outside of the station such as traditional izakayas if you hare happy to have a wander about. It is quite a way from the popular tourist areas (about 30 to 40 minute walk) and much of the walk is a bit boring along main roads. Felt very safe walking at night though.

Real bonus is not having to carry your luggage a long way from the station!

Convenient for car hire if you want one, we used Nippon just next to the station for a trip to Takayama and surrounds to explore the countryside.

If you are travelling in Japan by public transport, this is a superb hotel choice.
It is right within the impressive Kanazawa station with its private entrance. The lobby is on level 3 and the rooms are on floors above. Quiet, clean and nice. You won't feel the business of the station below you.
Great access to many restaurants and shops within the station, also the shipping mall Forus.
You won't miss the train or bus.

My family and I spent a night at Via Inn Kanazawa. Its location in the train station and transportation options were our prime consideration. Check in was a breeze and we used the machine to do both our check in and out. The double room we stayed in was small, with little space for a big luggage. Window faces the west entrance of the station. The wooden furniture looked highly utilized probably due to the high volumes. The bed was firm to our preference. Hotel has free WiFi. Good and convenient hotel for a short stay.

Situated inside JR Kanazawa Station, Via Inn is super convenient for transport.
There are loads of shops and restaurants inside the station as well, even a super market downstairs at 2F. Hotel room is small but adequate, perfect for a short stay.
Only downside I found is that breakfast choices are very limited. There are a few cafes open early but that's about it. Can't even find a Sukiya nearby.
