I have to say I was very impressed with the Dormy Inn. In every way the hotel was just superb.
It is about a 3 minute walk from the East Gate of JR station in Kanazawa, look for the Stabucks on the corner then take the left turn at the end of the Forus building, the one the Starbucks is a part of.
The room was clean, spacious and modern and the onsen spa on the top floor was excellent, a great way to soothe tired limbs after a day spent out sightseeing.
What other hotel would feed you unlimited beer or wine or whatever you want as well as snacks every evening between 7-9pm and then serve you as much ramen as you can eat from 9.30-11. Just a fantastic place. I loved the restaurant every evening and not just because of the free food and drink, it was because it drew a crowd, there was a lovely atmosphere and you could meet other guests.
Lovely considerate staff too, there was nothing they eiyldnt di to make your stay better.
From the JR station all the buses leave so the hotel is only 3 minutes from there. The JR bus goes to all the main tourist sights and it's free with the JR pass, 200 yen per trip otherwise. There is a tourist loop bus too as well as local services. If you want to walk to the likes of Kanazawa Castle, Koribo etc it's about a 30 minute walk, between 1.5-2km.
Anyway, a superb hotel, excellent in every way. I'd have no hesitation in staying here again and am happy to recommend it.
