Wonderful experience. Lovely ryokan but not luxury and quite expensive.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 weeks agovia mobile
Wonderful service from start to finish. We stayed in a large typical ryokan room with futon. Lovely touches like little origami on your pillow when you go to bed and the different diffuser smells you can pick to have in your room. We booked the private onsen which was lovely. Great location for takyama. Husband had Japanese breakfast and I had the fruit and bread. Both delicious and interesting. Only reason I have given a 4/5 is that the actual place is a bit tired now. Probably needs a bit of an update with the soft furnishings. Great stay though.

experience the traditional way of using a hotel in Japan. Super friendly reception, well explained what is offered, in-house onsen, traditional clothes, room diner setup to sleeping setup whilst going for diner.
Breakfast reservation was not possible anymore, but a bummer to the experience, as this would have completed the experience to the full extend.

Room tip: by aware to sleep on matras on the ground.. not best comfort to western people... fine for a night, not for 3 weeks.

The ryokan was disappointing overall. The space was very spare and not very inviting. The room was not set up for luggage or clothes storage. The bathroom was very basic. The futon bed was comfortable and the staff were generally friendly and helpful but not overly impressive. You had to take your own towel from your room to the onsen. We were expecting a more luxurious experience.

This is easily one of the best hotels we've stayed at.

1. The staff (every one of them) was friendly, helpful and courteous with smiles. All of them could speak simple conversational English. Some could speak English very well.

2. The hotel management is systematic. From check-in to room service and housekeeping etc., they were on top of the game. Everyone knew what to do.

3. The rooms are designed in the Ryokan style with the traditional interior deco complete with futon beds.

4. The breakfast experience is excellent with the crew, again, serving the guests with smiles and thoughtfulness.

5. The hotel is spick-and-span. They will keep your outdoor shoes on the ground floor when you stay in your rooms. They will also wipe the wheels of your luggage bags before bringing them up to your rooms.

6. The hotel is a 5-minute walk away from Takayama Train Station and the bus terminal. Convenient stores are nearby too.

Location 5 min from JR and Nohibus. 10 min to old town area.
Room : equip with good and functional furniture and appliance.
Service : very good service and pay attention to guest.
The shoes need to take off at Frontdesk. Make every area in the hotel clean.

Room tip: From JR or Nohibus go into small street that have Family Mart convenience store at corner to reach hotel.

An Authentic Japanese stay experience. Personalised service, taking care of every need. Rooms are large and ornate with classical Japenese furniture and fittings. They provide Yakutas to wear on-site, all very authentic. Breakfast, western or Japense or Only Fruits is elaborate and the dining room environment is exquisite. Has a great Onsen on-site which is available throughout the day. The place is a short walk from the Takayama Station which is very useful.

So if you wish to stay at a Ryokan, this is it.
