Even if you are not a railway fanatic, there is so much of interest here. Not just about the history of Japanese railways, but the future re maglev, and the Japanese pride in their railway system shines through. Lots of photo opportunities for families. I liked the touch of making an entire train, outside, the picnic venue for those bringing their own food. There is a handy convenience store at the station. All the families I witnessed were having a great time and there was plenty of stuff for the very technically minded. Had I time, I would have returned for a second visit.

A very interesting railway museum where displays all kinds of Japanese trains. You may even read the history of train development. Kids may get on each train, to see the interior. On the side of museum, there are many rooms showing the theory and simulation interactively. Quite interesting. Kids and I love it!
Also, this museum is easy to reach.

A really well done museum featuring many real examples of Japanese passenger trains over the years. Primarily in Japanese but most exhibits have secondary text in English. Giant model train set was spectacular!

This railway park is smaller than the one in Kyoto, but still be worth to visit with young child. The simulation driving experience is very attactive to children, and I also see a lot of adult are very interested in. Simulation driving shinkansen is proceed through a lucky draw but for other type of trains, you can just pay a ticket for getting the chance.
Not much crowded. There is dinning area serving the lunch box, with the same type of food collection as what was sold on the train before.
A small gift ship at 1/F where you can find some interesting souvenirs.
This is good place for young children.

It makes you smile that to get to the museum you have to take a private train. The museum is very well done, explains the technology, the various eras of the Japanese trains. Inside you can see old and new trains, simulators . Nice shop and restaurant.
