“Great snorkelling spoiled by blaring, cacophonous music...”
Reviewed 5 June 2011

We stayed with a friend in Aqaba who recommended the Royal Diving Centre for swimming, snorkelling and sun-bathing. The entry fee of JD15 is great value. The snorkelling off the reef, just yards from the shore, is exquisite and magical and is a must-do. We had lunch from the beach-side bar/restaurant and it was not very good but we could live with that.
However, although we put up with the incessant, blaring music from the same bar for most of the day, at about 4:30pm, another disco started up by the pool. The result was just too much and we had to leave. All in all, a great day was spoiled by the cacophony of competing music systems, being blasted from the beachside bar, the disco at the pool and other personal music systems. Why does Jordan find it necessary to supply a soundtrack to so many wonderful experiences that deserve quiet?
If you want some peace - and it will be hard to find - move towards the left side of the beach as far from the bar as possible. I'd have rated this a 5 but for the noise.

“great reef, not great food”
Reviewed 27 October 2010

We spent the day at the Royal Diving Centre and the reef was amazing. We saw a large number of tropical fish and it was so easy to walk in and out of the water. This allowed us to snorkel for a while, take a break, then snorkel some more. The food options were quite limited, as only one restaurant was open and half of the food was not available. Even still, I would definitely recommend the snorkeling for the day. It was 15 JD for the entry, 8 JD for snorkel and fin rental, 1 JD for towel rental and 1.5 JD for locker rental. The food was reasonably priced. Taxi from town was around 10 JD, but they had a shuttle bus for 2JD per person that went roughly once an hour.

“No colour and very few fish”
Reviewed 28 April 2009

My party and ! were most disappointed in the coral and fish at the Royal Diving Centre. Although there was lots of coral there was hardly any colour and it looked just like a big brown mass. There was also very few fish but this could be put down to the fact they were running speedboats with banana boats attached to them from the floating jetty at regular intervals. Although the surroundings were very nice I feel the costs of getting there (2JD), cost of entry (10JD), hire of snorkelling equipment (8JD), towel (1JD) and hire of locker (1.5JD) did not justify it. Save money and go to one of the nearby local beaches - then it will only cost your taxi fare.

“Great Reef and Fantastic Accommodation”
Reviewed 8 July 2005

The Royal Diving Centre is a great base from which to explore Jordan. When we went in Feb 05 it had just opened it's own hotel there with all the mod cons (pool, beach bar, restaurant etc.). But the best bit is the reef - it's just feet from the hotel's beach and is teaming with lion fish, parrot fish and the odd octopus or two! Go - as you are sipping your Arak, on the beach, looking over at Eliat by night you'll be sure you've picked the right place.
