it's ok if just for the night. price is reasonably cheap. location is along the river very near the jap bridge..very strategic. but the room itself is very basic.. furniture n bed seemed old. spacious enuf. toilet n bath area is small.
cleanliness is ok.
the hotel front is a restaurant actually..very small space. kitchen seems to be at level 1? near the stairs. there's no lift. i can smell kitchen cooking near the stairs so probably the rooms at the front near to the kitchen is not a good idea.
the reception is at back of the building.
altho rooms come w windows but there's no view. it opens to the roomtop of building next to it.

Was here for 3 nights and would definitely stay here again. The location of the hotel is superb, we walked by the river to the old town every day for sightseeing and food. It is also located only a street away from the daily night market. The staff were friendly, always willing to help with a cheerful smile. Rooms were good for a basic hotel, clean and comfortable. They are exactly as described as when we booked on Agoda; no complaints. They had free wifi and bottled water. Breakfast buffet was also plentiful for a budget hotel -there was fried rice, bacon, sausages, vegetables, fruits, cereal and bread.

I have booked but cancelling it due to broken my plan, then get refund quickly from Sunset hotel. It feels very good service, we sure will have booking when planning to Hoi An again. Thank you very much!

From the outset we just got the most uninterested vibe from every staff member we encountered. Every question we asked felt like a chore to answer which is pretty poor when you’re only visiting a place for three nights.

The room - the bathroom was so unclean I felt absolutely horrible actually getting in to the shower each day. When we first arrived the toilet had leaked all over the floor so it was covered in toilet water. The shower curtain had black mould on it.

The staff - actively unhelpful. Our bank got scammed and we had no way to contact our Australian bank from our phones so needed help and all they could say was ‘post office’ and this is not due to bad English as they could speak it much better than other hotels in Vietnam. Not one time did any staff member initiate a conversation with either of us, or even give a hello.

Breakfast - when we walked in all 3 days the first word we heard was “coupon” - not hello or good morning. One of the MAJOR flaws is that there is 1 toaster that does 2 slices at a time for around 30 people. It gets so crowded and you have to wait for so long that it’s almost not even worth eating there. I understand I’m in Vietnam and not a western country but if that’s the issue then supply more Vietnamese food. The staff did not ever interact with us during breakfast time in any way. The first day we didn’t even realise you could get eggs made for you as they didn’t even point that out.

Sleep - the first two nights during our stay we got about 3/4 hours of broken sleep. The Tiger Tiger bar blasts music that you can feel vibrating throughout your room. Also, EVERY night there was a screaming cat between 1-3am that just went “meow” solidly and genuinely made it impossible to sleep. I appreciate this is not inside the hotel but surely they can hear it and try to do something about it?

We hired a scooter through the hotel and that was yet another disappointment. The indicators did not switch off properly causing us to have a small bump. The wing mirror came loose and when we tried to return from the beach it didn’t start. I told the woman about this and she didn’t care a single bit. Just said ok.

All in all this is by far and away the most disappointing hotel we have stayed in of the five so far in Vietnam. People could say what do you expect for the price - I say go and stay in Splendid Star Grand Hotel in Hanoi which is cheaper and then see what difference good staff can make to a hotel. Please if in Hoi An do not choose to stay in this hotel unless you like queuing for breakfast, being woken up multiple times during the night and coming out of the shower dirtier than when you went in.

This is a review for other travellers but also feedback for the hotel because the list of complaints would’ve been so long that it genuinely wasn’t even worth trying to voice them. I also know it would have been met with eye rolls and unhelpful responses.

On a positive note HOI AN IS AMAZING and our favourite place so far in Vietnam.

We stayed for two nights in the Sunset Hoi An Hotel. While it is conveniently located in the city, we found our room to be without towels and flowing water, thus, we had to change rooms. WiFi was slow and the rooms could use some paint and on top, towels were still dirty :-/ I would choose another hotel next time.
