As a bit of a cat person it was great to come and check out the cafe/sanctuary. Cats are healthy and treated very well while also very friendly with kids. Make sure you book ahead from the Facebook page!

A young couple rescued a street kitten, called it Jack, looked after it even after it turned out to be female and produced a litter of kittens, and eventually lost it in sad circumstances.

From this, the idea of a cat sanctuary evolved and that same couple now run Jack's Cat Cafe where 70 rescued cats occupy a secure garden, safe from mistreatment, traffic and the very real possibility of ending up in a cooking pot.

The cats are a mixed bunch: some friendly and happy to greet the paying visitors, and some more aloof. The garden itself is a little haven of calm, attractively landscaped with a little pond in the centre, containing one (nervous) carp. We arrived a little too early prior to opening time, and were politely asked to wait, as volunteers were still cleaning up. The garden is very clean - perfectly fine to walk around barefoot or in the flip-flops they lend you.

Getting there is easy from the centre of Hoi An. We used Google maps and walked there, having read reviews that suggested taxi drivers don't all know the location. You need to make an appointment online, as the flow of visitors is carefully controlled to avoid crowding the garden and stressing the cats. You pay 100000VND ($4.4 / £3.1 / 3.5 Euros) per person to enter and get a complimentary drink; further fresh food is available to buy, what we tried was delicious, cheap and vegetarian.

My friend and I visited Jack’s while in Hoi An on holiday. Was blown away by how great of an atmosphere it is for the cats (something I had been worried about) and people! Would never guess that there are over 70 cats there! Food was also nice and the volunteers were very friendly. Highly recommend to any animal lover.

Place is hard to find in a suburban back street of Hoi An. Full of charming and mostly friendly pussy cats saved from the streets and cooking pots of Hoi An. This is not one of those trendy Japanese cat cafes. This is a genuine sanctuary for the stray and unloved. A place to get your cat fix, stroke a moggy or two, or three. Worth the very cheap cab fare out but get the address before you get in the cab, the drivers are not familiar with the place.
