“Overpriced”
Reviewed 19 May 2012

I flew into Entebbe from Turkey, arriving at 1:30am, I had apprised the Gately Inn of this arrival time and they had assured me they would have a driver waiting for me at the airport. There was no driver waiting. I hired a private Taxi to take me to the Inn. The room appeared nice enough, but I had a friend picking me up the next morning, so for the price and lack of service I would rather have stayed at a cheaper place. They did not reimburse me for the Taxi fee.

As someone else has noted it is very noisy as it is situated right on the main road which is always busy.

Dear Valued Guest,
I read your review with great empathy of arriving so late at an International airport tired and needy of a comfortable room. It was my staff who were surprised by these comments as they remember questioning your spontaneous arrival at the Hotel after they had a driver and guest relations staff waiting for you at the airport (confirmed by our airport parking receipt). Your response to them on the night was that you did not see anyone so decided to make your own way to Gately. Your friend was an agreed pick up the following morning of which had there have been any discomfort of misunderstanding (regardless of our services being availed to you as agreed) we would have reimbursed your taxi fee in keeping with good faith as we have done before, needed or not.

I found this hotel by chance after being away from civilisation for 10 days without a shower working.

I was made welcome and shown to a room that was more than adequate.

The food was excellent, staff smashing, security good.

Two very refreshing days before flying back to UK.

Room Tip: Let the staff look after you.

We stayed for 2,5 weeks at the Hotel. The staff is exceptional friendly and creates a warm and loving atmosphere. The food is absolutely delicious and we enjoyed it. The garden is lovely and the two dogs running around give a cozy atmosphere. The rooms are ok, but somewhat run down. We had some wildlife in our rooms in form of geckoes, but hoped that they kept down spiders, etc. The cleaning might have been better.
However, the position is very bad. You are surrounded by roads and the main traffic road between Kampala and Entebbe almost goes through your bed. Only between 3 and 4 in the night it was somewhat quiet. It is a shame, otherwise this would have been a five star rating.

Room Tip: We asked for a room most remote from the traffic. That is, however, not possible.

I found this gem out of frustration at a cheap hotel and it actually defies the notion that good things ain't cheap. For $120 per night this splendid little lodge had EVERYTHING. Location is awesome right on the main road and accessible to all forms of transportation. Security almost overkill. Even some dogs roam the grounds as back up--very gentle playful dogs--no need to worry dog haters. The rooms are individual lodges of varying sizes. They are spotted around a well kept, beautiful, natural garden. The inside is beautifully temperature controlled, excellent water supply---with one of the most fantastically designed shower that is almost like an outdoor experience; internet works well with great speed; consistent auto generator so no electricity problems; great restaurant; complimentary full made to order breakfast; and free airport transport; friendly unobtrusive staff, privacy, and what else can I say? Bed is great with total mosquito net. Sleep quality excellent. There is a Chinese restaurant opened late across the street---but quality is poor. Lodge is small so no room service and restaurant closes by 9; I highly recommend this place. The rooms are just like Amanzi Lodge, another fantastic place, in Zimbabwe. You will hear some traffic in the morning hours in the front lodge where I stayed. If that is an issue ask for a lodge at the back. If you have to stay in Entebbe, give this place a shot. It is just ten minutes from the airport. You would not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Pick a back lodge if traffic sound would bother you. But all the lodges seem awesome. Not sure if th...

I was lucky enough to spend three nights in this beautiful guesthouse and found it very difficult to say goodbye. The rooms are beautifully decorated with subtle African style and offer just enough for the price - comfortable beds with mosquito nets, fans, great rain shower-heads in the bathroom, and flat-screen TVs. The staff were incredible - friendly and professional. The gift shop is the best in town. The restaurant is also one of my favourites in Entebbe and the included breakfast was delicious...especially with passion-fruit juice. I was there for work, but would gladly go back for pleasure.
