This villa is on a small island. You are therefore dependent on the water-taxis which run from 9am to midnight in peak season and cost 10TL each trip though you can pay extra to persuade them to extend those hours. You obtain the mobile numbers of the taxis on the first day. If you don't have a Turkish mobile then calling for a taxi will be costly. The villa is well decorated and everything is provided although the internet is not broadband but provided by a 3G Wi-Fi device. The owner's representative, Murat, met us at the jetty and travelled across with us on the first day to show us around and give us the keys.
Parking on the mainland was a slight problem as the nearest parking places to the jetty were chargeable and the man on the barrier attempted to charge us 80TL for the week even though we knew that the daily rate was 5TL. Free public parking is very nearby and we used it without problem.
The air-conditioning in the villa is effective although the unit in the master bedroom was so noisy that we had no choice but to turn it off at night as otherwise we would have been unable to sleep. We mentioned this to Murat but he simply shrugged his shoulders. The power in the villa is a little temperamental and you should ensure that you know where the trip-switch by the main gate is as you'll need to reset it several times.
The beaches on the island are clean and peaceful, although boat-trips from the mainland visit occasionally. The cicadas are very noisy but you get used to them. There is a restaurant at one end of the island where the food is acceptable but the prices reflect its location. There is also a hotel where the restaurant is open to non-residents but we found the food served there was less good. We had excellent food at the Calis Beach Club Restaurant and Mozaik Bahce Restaurant in Fethiye itself.
One incident brought our experience of the villa down with a thump. We had rented the villa from Monday to Monday. When we arrived Murat told us that he would bring a cleaner in on the Thursday at 10am and we accepted this. When we have rented properties of similar size in the past, cleaning staff have dropped in, mopped round, made beds and generally cleaned but are in and gone within 20 minutes. Murat and the cleaner arrived at 10am and we went out a short while later. However when we returned 5 hours later it appeared that the majority of the cleaning had not been done and we were made to feel as if we shouldn’t be there. Murat and the cleaner left an hour later having rushed around doing the majority of the work. We attempted to raise our concerns with the owner but he has not responded.
