“Fantastic Apartment in lovely Kalkan”
Reviewed 13 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

My brother, who has been to Kalkan many times, told me that you meet two types of people in Kalkan: Those that have been many times before and those that are there for the first time but say that they are definitely coming back!
This was our first time in Kalkan.
We stayed in Apartment Leylek in the Asfiya Retreat complex booked through Truffle. The booking process was easy and Nigel responded vey quickly to any correspondence we sent him prior to travelling. Truffle arranged a private transfer from the airport for us and Nigel was at the apartment to greet us on arrival. He gave us some useful tips and left us with a much appreciated welcome pack that was perfect to get us through the first night.
The apartment itself was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. It has two bedrooms on the upper floor (each with its own En-Suite) and a kitchen / Dining / living area (plus additional toilet) on the ground floor. The complex and apartment are clearly quite new and all the fittings etc. worked perfectly and felt clean. The apartment is light and airy and there always seemed to be room to find your own corner if you wanted a bit of space. Outside, there is a wrap around balcony on the upper floor with chairs and side tables (plus fantastic sea views of Kalkan bay) but the highlight is definitely the private pool and terrace on the ground floor. Together with a dining table (perfect for outdoor breakfasts) there are a couple of good quality sun loungers and a great bean bag that my son loved 'lolling' on.
It is so unusual to find a 2 bedroom apartment with its own private pool, so this is a real gem. There are only three of us in our party so we don't need a big villa and also prefer to be within walking distance of the all the restaurants and bars etc - so this was perfect. A lovely pool - not massive but big enough to swim in and perfect for escaping the mid summer heat.
Kalkan itself is a great place to visit if you like eating out (and we do). There are literally dozens and dozens of places to eat ranging from local restaurants in the back streets to classy harbour side restaurants and some fantastic roof top terraces with both stunning views and food.
You will struggle to find a bad meal experience in Kalkan so I will not recommend any specific establishments - the fun is finding your own favourites. On the whole, the service in Kalkan restaurants is above what you normally find in tourist destinations. The waiters are really attentive and so friendly and polite. In most places, you are given a free 'taster' starter so be warned, if you plan on eating a starter, main course and desert as well - you had better have expanding waistline clothes on!
There are some brilliant things to do in and around Kalkan and there are numerous tour operators locally where you can book them. The 'day trips' all seem to be around £20 per person and are fantastic value as they normally include lovely lunches. We did a full day cruising around Kalkan bay on a boat with several stops for swimming, the obligatory mud bath and some lovely food (don't get my wife talking about the tea time cake!). A brilliant day out and a 'must do' on any visit to Kalkan.
We also spent another day at Kerkova (the sunken city), which is just over an hour away in an air conditioned mini bus. Not sure that the 'sunken city' part of it is all that impressive but the scenery is stunning and we even spied some turtles as we sailed around.
Saklikent gorge is less than an hour away and well worth a visit - we combined this with a trip to ancient Tlos (for a bit of culture!), lunch at a mountain trout farm and finished the day at stunning Patara beach, playing in the waves...All this for £20 per person - brilliant!
Kalkan offers just about everything we look for in a holiday and Apartment Leylek was perfect for us. The service provided by Truffle (and Nigel in particular) was excellent and we would not hesitate to recommend them.
So this was our first time in Kalkan. Would we come back again.....DEFINATELY !

“Lovely penthouse apartment with stunning views ”
Reviewed 23 July 2016 for a stay in July 2016

We stayed in Caro one of the 2 penthouse apartments in the Asifya Retreat apartments.

Tastefully decorated, all mod cons and the most stunning views across Kalkan bay.

The apartment has a wrap around terrace with a jacuzzi and plenty of room to sunbathe, eat and relax.

There is also a shared pool which is lovely. For most of the holiday we and our friends who stayed in Infinity the other penthouse, were the only people by the pool most days.

There is a twin bedroom with small balcony, a bathroom with shower, sink and toilet and a cupboard with Washing machine all on the floor you enter.

Up a marble stair case you come to open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area. Lovely modern kitchen units with cooker, oven, microwave, dishwasher and all cooking and eating utensils you would need.

Lounge has tv with satellite channels, DVD player and aircon.

Also on this floor is a wc with toilet and hand basin and the double bedroom with en suite. All bedrooms have aircon.

There are hills in Kalkan of that there is no doubt but if you turn left past the Rhapsody Hotel to the Kalamar Road and turn right, the walk into town is fine.

We are out most nights and found everywhere lovely. Some are pricier than others but not expensive by Uk prices.

The Kalamar beach club is left along Kalamar Road and about a 15 min walk or you can get taxi for about 10tl. Great beach club and lovely bay.

We also did several trips. Boat trip round Kalkan bay with Adil. We just walked down to the harbour and booked directly with them. 650tl for 7 of us and the lunch was delicious.

We did canoeing down Xanthos river and boat trip to Kekova and the sunken city. Swam with turtles which was amazing.

We booked through Unlimted Travel tours and Ismail was great. The boat for Kekova was Nergiz and Captain Ali was brilliant. He was our guide and turtle finder! Lunch of barbecued chicken and salad was fabulous.

Great holiday.

“Great accomodation”
Reviewed 16 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Stayed here in June this year and was really pleased with the accomodation. The views and space in the terrace are exceptional and it is only a short walk down to kalkan itself.
All the facilities you could need are in the accomodation and the welcome pack is just what you need for the first couple of days. Nigel was most helpful and nothing to much problem even giving us a late check out which really helped with diligent times.

“Spotless apartment with excellent facilities and very good location”

We stayed at the apartment Serce at Asfiya Retreat. Having previously rented accommodation in Kalkan via Truffle we expected this to be of an excellent standard and were not disappointed. Asfiya Retreat is a beautifully designed small complex of apartments with a superb shared pool area. Serce itself was spotlessly clean and has every item of equipment you could possibly need. The private plunge pool was a favourite feature. Asifiya Retreat also benefits from being a flat 15 minute walk into the centre of Kalkan. This is something of a rarity in Kalkan where strenuous hill climbs are the norm. Truffle arranged our airport transfers for us. These arrangements worked seamlessly with Mel from Truffle meeting us on arrival to show us the accommodation and Nigel from Truffle meeting us on departure to make sure everything had gone well. They were both readily available by phone to answer any queries we had during our stay and were able to provide us with a late checkout on departure due to a late flight time (cost £40)
