Wonderful audio tour which is included with the free app. Restoration is coming along beautifully. We spent about 2 hours there. Honestly could have spent another 1 or 2. Well definitely go back in years to come to see the progress made.

My wife and I have been to Boldt Castle a few times and it's amazing the changes that have taken place each time. We find it enjoyable each & every time we go. All that go to the Bay area should at least once take the trip there.

This castle is not that old. It was built for the owner's beloved wife. But she died when the castle was not finished, and the owner abandoned it for many years. I recommend to go there in the fall. It's beautiful!

Beautiful Castle accessible only by boat. Our family enjoyed both the short boat ride and walking through the renovated rooms and gardens. A brief film explained the history of the castle. Be sure to go early as the last boat leaves the island an hour before the advertised Castle closing time.

We visited here last September on our way back from Ottawa to our home in Pennsylvania. We took the boat from the US side (one-hour tour on Uncle Sam's Boats) out to see Boldt Castle. Years ago, the AAA Tour Book described this house as "unfinished and unfurnished," so I thought it wasn't worth seeing, but after reading the TripAdvisor reviews of the house, it seemed it was. So glad we changed our mind, as we loved our visit!

It was very convenient to take the boat right to the castle (and get the return pickup later that afternoon). As soon as you reach the dock, there is a small snack bar (ice cream, hot dogs, etc.) and picnic tables if you want to bring your own lunch/snacks. Then you can purchase tickets and enter the grounds and see the house. The grounds themselves are very attractive, with lovely landscaping everywhere; this really sets off the house nicely. (We ran into a gardener during our walk around and made a point to tell him how especially stunning the huge pots of plants & flowers were all around).

Once we entered the house, we were even more impressed. The design and exterior appearance of the stone "castle" is beautiful enough, but the interior furnishings and decorations are even more stunning. Although the story of the house and its original owner is sad, it is wonderful that the house is being restored and made available for the public to see. I am a fan of historic homes, architecture, and decor, and I have to say that whoever is guiding the choices in room decor and detailing has exquisite taste! (I recall one or two of the bedrooms upstairs that were especially breathtaking!) We learned that they are completing about one additional room per year, so it won't be long until the entire place is preserved and showcased to perfection. At one point during the tour, you enter a room with seats for viewing a video; this is a nice feature (I always enjoy getting background information about the sites I visit).

Touring the house (and imagining living there) and exploring the grounds was so enjoyable--what a truly pleasant spot they chose for their dream house; although they never got to enjoy it, we sure did! Sitting out on the benches down by the pier was very pleasant, especially watching other water crafts sail by on their tour of the river. We also took the short water taxi ride over to the yacht house and enjoyed seeing the boats stored there.

Go see this place--you won't regret it!
