First, ignore the sour spoiling reviews on here. The staff are courtesy itself and although understated and anything but flashy, the resort has the kind of polished perfection normally seen only on a filmset. And yes, I've had experience of Peninsulas, Mandarin Orientals, The Ritz, etc etc all my life so I know the grand old hotels with which I'm comparing it . To compare this to a Sheraton is just a joke, by the way, and as for efficient security staff, well I am delighted! It is a very expensive and exclusive property - privacy together with protection from outsiders is what guests pay for and expect.. Interested potential guests can see quite enough on the website!

We spent a week in spacious understated luxury. The resort is a world away from the rest of Phuket. The service is superb, discreet but anticipating your every need. The pavilions, ie rooms, were enormous, not just beautifully designed but practical too. There were buggies to take you around or to the beach if you dislike steps. There were lots of steps but this is a steep site - one reason why the beach at the bottom is so wonderfully private - so it is hardly surprising. Food was delicious but expensive, like all extras, predictably.

The beach was pristine, with not a spot of litter or seaweed to be seen. Indeed the whole resort was maintained to an amazing standard.
Space, beauty, tranquillity and superb service are clearly the Aman's idea of luxury and I, for one, would not disagree. From our arrival to our departure at the airport the experience was seamless. I will return when I can!

Hotel has been expanding during last twenty years. Around Christmas, you will have to wait to get a seat at restaurant on the beach, where, now, there are buggies can take you
Twenty years ago, owners didn't want any children or old people. I guess they are aging also.
But the best is to rent a house in the complex. from four to six rooms there are very luxurious and you will enjoy the best service. Security and reception could be nicer. but also they have to deal with rude and arrogant people. Thai people are very simple and polite if well treated.
A house with 6 rooms sells for $16 Million renal prices are on request. A nice room in hotel US.1700.00 .might be cheaper in January. You also can rent boat 5 cabins 110 ft for 16000.00 a day. multiply by 2 weeks

May I simply say one thing before I begin this review???
Those that have written negative or so-so reviews of Amanpuri must be on drugs! This place is incredible. Stop with this negative nonsense. Please.
Our group of six had a most spectacular vacation in Thailand recently which inluded a three night stay in Amanpuri. We had the privilege of enjoying a private villa with pool (with our own INCREDIBLE staff), and had a perfect stay. Thailand is well known for the special service given guests, but Amanpuri took this to a new level. Every single one of our needs was met and exceeded, both by the hotel and our staff. The villa was AMAZING, the bedrooms well appointed and large, the private pool delightful, the dining sala PERFECT, our living spaces (both indoor and out) filled with artwork, and our final dinner (cooked by our personal chef) was the best of any meal we enjoyed while in Thailand.
Amanpuri's beach is clearly the best and most private of any resort in Thailand, and any of the preceeding reviewers that complained about cleanliness on the beach...are CRAZY.
We also loved the restaurants in the resort, were given excellent guidance by the concierge for our off-site trips, and absolutely thought the spa was wonderful.
Amanpuri (as are all the Aman resorts) is NOT an inexpensive place to stay. You clearly get what you pay for. We did extensive research, and though there are two other resorts in Phuket that can compete with Aman, we feel strongly that we chose wisely. Stay there, and you will likely find yourself a big fan of all things Aman.

This place really is Paradise. It is a large complex, with few guests and a 7-1 staff/guest ratio. Service is unimaginably good. The pavilions in which you stay are exquisite, and large. The whole place is immaculate and beautifully tended. There is a lovely beach. Food is excellent.
Unfortunately, this comes at a price: with breakfast, you will be lucky to get out for GBP900 a day. But if money is no object, I cannot think of a happier way of spending it.
The only reservation I had was that the steps down to the beach are very steep, with no handrail: almost like the front of an Aztec temple. You were half expecting Indiania Jones to come bouncing down the steps. But you can get a buggy down to the beach if you like.

Room Tip: Make sure your room is close to where the buggies pick up.

This place should be called the Amansheraton. Interesting to see that the Chedi, which used to share the same beach, has given up and sold. If you want to recreate the atmosphere of the Costa del Sol for $1000++ per night, go right ahead and stay here (including booming music from the bar at the neighbouring hotel - so consistent with the Aman idea of a remote paradise!). It might have been cutting edge 25 years ago when it opened, but these days it feels like a tired Sheraton that has given up caring. It has fallen so far behind its peer group (Peninsula, MO, Six Senses, Four Seasons) that it doesn't even know it. For $1000 a night, breakfast is not included, no tea/coffee facilities in room, and when concerns are raised, they are met with a slightly passive aggressive "we'll look into it", suggesting that anyone with complaints does not understand the "Aman" myth. It is a myth, at least here - and completely unlike other Amans that we (and other readers) will have enjoyed. (The concerns were, of course, never looked into.) The "resort" is a tired attempt to fleece customers with a a degree of rapaciousness which is astonishing (for example, sun tan lotion forgotten on the beach before going for a swim? Sorry - you'll have to walk to the top of a hill - on concrete steps not unfamiliar to those who use NCP car parks - to your "pavilion", as the beach team have none available. Alternatively, we were told to buy some in the shop - Aman will do anything for money). The point is that Aman sells itself - and prices itself - on the basis of faultness luxury. It provides nothing of the sort. It is a perfectly adequate resort on a busy section of the island. Frankly, you can find more exotic destinations in the Med. There are countless better places to stay in Thailand, SE Asia and elsewhere in the world.

Sad to say, Aman - you need to shut this place down to protect your brand.
