Reviewed 14 November 2011

We arrived in Phuket after a 7-8 hour flight (for our 2 week honeymoon). We were picked up in a very nice, clean (new looking) black 4wd and offered a bottle of iced water when we got in the car (very nice touch after flighting so long and not being used to the heat of Phuket).
We arrived at the hotel an hour later where we were greeted by the reception staff and given cold drinks and cold towels. The check in process was very quick and all went well and we headed to our room (in a golf cart!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Room –

We booked a H20 Suite, but as it was our honeymoon and we were staying 2 weeks we got an upgrade (and free transfers to and from the airport). We were upgraded to the Pool Residence Suites. This room has a private pool, 2 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a kitchen and a roof level where you can dine or sunbath.

The honeymoon set up of our room was lovely, roses and rose petals in the bathroom and on the bed.

The toiletries in the room are great as they are in pump bottles; so much easier than the small bottles hotels give you (you never seem to have enough shampoo).
We loved this room, definitely worth the money and very much appreciate the free upgrade!! It would even be worth it at the full price!!

You get 4 bottles of complimentary “Serenity” water each day.

We were a little upset at the beginning of the 2nd week as our pool had not been cleaned as there were leaves at the bottom of the pool (for a few days) and there was Algae in the pool, so much so that the steps got very slippery. I tried to call the reception and it rang for 3 minutes with no answer. We decided to walk up and spoke to the front desk (which was a little difficult so explain algae….), staff assured us that the pool is cleaned daily…. I asked that the pool please be cleaned ASAP; they assured me that it would be cleaned after our chat or first thing in the morning. We woke up the next morning, went to breakfast and hung around until lunch time; the pool had still not been cleaned. I called the reception and they sent someone to clean it half an hour later. (also bugged Pascal with this as well – he followed this up with maintenance) It turned out that the chemicals in the pool were not working, which maybe they would have noticed if the pool was cleaned daily. They did go overboard with the chemicals, so we were not able to swim until the next afternoon as the chlorine was sooo strong, it burnt the nostrils walking past.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Service –
The service is always fantastic but the language barrier is a big issue (for us personally).

Front desk -
They didn’t understand or speak very much English (understandably this will sound selfish, but I think that English is a fairly worldwide language, we even heard a few Norwegians checking in speaking English.) It was very hard to organise things or ask them questions. We gave up.

Man in concierge was great, we booked us a tour and we changed our mind to a different tour, he happily changed that for us, as well as organising the hotels private car to take up to Patong Beach.

Food & Beverage –
Some of the F&B staff can’t speak English or understand it very much (I nearly gave up trying to order Risotto over the phone as they did not understand me) but they do try very hard. “Gun” (the waitresses name) in “East 88” was fantastic from day 1, she greeted us with a smile and throughout our stay looked after us very well and made sure we knew about the hotel activities (the open of the high season party and the loy krathong festival) as well as the when the local market in Rawai beach was and about the Phuket town night markets. Her English was very good so we communicated most issues or things we wanted to know through her, she would then follow it up for us, as well as doing her job and tending to other guests.

Pool staff –
There was always someone wondering around the pool area to assist guests, providing towels and refreshments or food. Faris was very friendly, very helpful and always up for a chat.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pool –
The pool (while we didn’t use it as we have our own private pool) is large and very nice! There are several types of pool lounges/sunbeds, that are very comfortable and well maintained (when it rained, the F&B and pool staff rushed out and put the covers on. Once the rain was finished, they came out with giant squeegee and cleaned off the sun lounges.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Food –
The food…. Well what can I say… it was Beyond AMAZING!!! Who would have thought that we had to travel to Phuket to get the best spaghetti carbonara. The Thai food was fantastic and so was the Western food. The breakfast selection was great, fruits, pastries, all types of eggs (scrambles, fried etc), bacon, sausages, fried rice :), sushi, fruit juices… and so on, there was a large selection! Going to breakfast before 9am is best as it does get very busy around 9am.

We noticed that all the menus had 8 items in each section (which we found entertaining as the restaurant was “East 88”). Starters, salads, club sandwich, burgers, Italian food (pizza and pasta), mains, Thai starters, Thai mains, kids menu and dessert.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Location –
Is a bit out from the main area (Patong beach) but I think that is what is best about it. It’s away from the noise and the smell of Patong and the bigger areas. It’s quiet and nice to relax and take in the fresh air and scenery.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Staff –
Big thanks for Pascal (F&B Manager) for looking after us during the last week of our stay and to “Gun” for going beyond her job to help us and make our stay memorable. Thank you to “Thai” for making our Private room dinner very enjoyable. A HUGE thank you for “Chef O” for all of the very very fabulous food! And a Big thank you to Nat, Joy, Mam, Qiw, Bua and Apple and all F&B staff (whose names have escaped my mind right now) for looking after us and being friendly and helpful. Thank you to “Sak” for his hospitality and showing us a great dining spot and offering to show us the sites. Last but not least, thank you to Urs (General Manager) for putting on some great events at the hotel!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spa –
The Spa of course was amazing! We had a “Pure Back” massage was amazing!! I had an achy back for days afterwards (in a good way...). I did have a bit of a communication issue when getting a manicure but after speaking to Pascal, it was very quickly fixed up. We had planned to both have a 2 hour treatment but we were very sunburnt and weren’t able to have the treatment on our last day. Sadly we weren’t able to send much time at the spa (next time we will!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Beach –
The beach isn’t really for swimming but in saying that it is amazing scenery. The tide does come in and out twice a day but that is not something that the hotel can control. It can bit a little muddy but I think that both high tide and low tide were beautiful!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maintenance –
While the maintenance of our pool was a little disappointing (but was fixed). It was very nice to see a hotel that cares, there was constant maintenance being done. A new bar build into East 88, painting of buildings and general upkeep of the grounds and rooms to keep the place looking nice, as being so close to the beach/sea, the hotel would take a beating from the sea air and salt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

General –

We were very lucky to get to go on the "Lady Anita" Yacht after the "Open of the High Season" party. It is a gorgeous yacht!! Would be nice to one day be able to afford to hire it for a day or 2 :)

The taxis out the front of the hotel are fairly priced and each time we caught them the taxi was a brand new sparkling clean car. (if you use the hotel car, it is slight higher price compared to Tuk Tuks and the taxis but still very much worth it).

There is also a free Shuttle to a beach close by for swimming and to Central Festival (shopping centre) and Patong beach, while they are for around 5pm (except the beach shuttle that goes around 10am) it is better to go to Patong at night, much cooler!. Make sure to book the shuttle as it can get full quickly.
You can also hire books or DVDs from the front desk and book tours.

The 7/11 around the road is good for snacks (also the minibar in the room is well equipped!)
We had an issue or 2, which happens when you stay there 2 weeks; it is not always perfect, but pretty close!

Would HIGHLY recommend going to the Phuket town night markets - much much cheaper than Patong markets.

In closing we had an absolutely fantastic and relaxing stay. A HUGE thank you to all the staff at Serenity for making our honeymoon so memorable. It was our first time in Phuket but we are already planning our trip back there to Serenity for next year (hopefully).

Room Tip: Pool Residence - Private pool and fantastic views

i used a groupon offer to stay here 5 nights, it was wonderful, huge 2 bed 2 bathroom penthouse with private roof terrace and own kitchen, views over the sea... weather was fabulous and food was good, there is a 7 eleven across the road for cheap daily essentials but hotel offered free water each day, all the staff were very courtious, mum had a spa session which she enjoyed, food was nice... it was just fabulous to switch off from the world for 5 nights, highly recommended. With Thailands tourist industry suffering i would encourage all to visit, i would say venue was suited to couples/families. I was there with my mum visiting from overseas

Room Tip: ask to see the room before you agree to take it.. try to get one with good views of the sea - higher up, we were first offered a 1 bed penthouse with its own pool, when i booked 2 bed (without pool) if i had been a couple sharing a bed it would have been a great treat but wanted 2 rooms

Friday. 11th November. 7.44am. Sun has risen over the island and the only sound is the lapping of the water. Thank you URs, Pascal! Gun and Karn for making first 3. Nights in Phuket so special. The festival night last night with the thai dancing and lighting of the lanterns gave us lovely memories. The private dinner on the deck of our apartment was first class. Thanks to Thai for his service and chef for his culinary skills. The accommodation at the resort is first class. The resort is impeccably clean. I saw cleaners using toothbrushes to reach out of the way areas. Every guest we have spoken to has been delighted. We read on trip advisor re problems with taxis. Fear not, that has clearly been addressed and there is a taxi service now at the front gate. The buffet breakfast offers a great range. Good coffee too. Go to breakfast early as it does get busy around 9am. Very good gym well equipped Not much in the way of shops locally but I didn't come to shop. There is a complimentary shuttle bus to take you to the beach or to patong. We leave toad to go to mom tri villa Royale in kata noi, which we love. But we will defs be back at serenity in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: The closer to the pool and to the beach the better.

If you are looking for a place to just be relaxed, Serenity is a right choice.

We just came back from one week staying at this hotel. Check-in was quick and there was chilled drink and iced towel which was so good after 8 hours flying.

Room:
Our room was Standard Room. (We wanted to upgrade room to sea view but there was not available). The bed and sleeping stuff was so good. The quality of shampoo, shower gel and moisturizer was excellent. There were also tea/coffee maker, complimentary water, loaded mini bar and a safe for valuable things. Our room was so comfortable and nothing to complain.

Location:
The location of this hotel as you see on the map is far from downtown but there is Taxi service by the local taxi syndicate in front of the hotel and shuttle bus by resort.
Taxi fare (in THB) from Serenity to RAWAI: 200 – NAIHARN: 300- CHALONG: 200 – KARON: 500 – PATONG: 600- PHUKET: 500 AIRPORT: 1000- KAMALA: 1000 –CAPE PANWA: 600- LAGUNA: 1000
There's a 7-11 store across the road and a Tesco-lotus a few minutes drive from the hotel.
Tip: for shuttle bus you should book one day in advance at front office. Seats are allocated on a first come first serves basis up to maximum of 10 guests per shuttle bus

Staff:
All the staffs were great and friendly and ready to help us with anything. They were always smiling, behaved politely and considered guest’s needs.

Food and restaurant:
The breakfast buffet was good but in comparison to other 5 star hotels it was very normal. We expected more than that.
The “88 EAST” restaurant is lovely place by the beach for lunch, Dinner and hangout. In menu you can find both western and Thai food. We had lunch for five days there and all of the meals were so delicious. Thanks to chef.

Spa:
Don’t miss massage at Spa. “Pure loving” and “Reiki” are amazing and really rejuvenating. Staffs are very friendly and helped us to choose right massage. Masseuses are professional. We got 3 times massages and really enjoyed it.

Beach, pool and balu’s bar:
We spend most of our time by the pool. The lovely area which you can’t get enough of it. You can drink, sunbathe, read, knap and access to the internet by WiFi for checking email and enjoy the sea view. There is also free usage of mountain bikes and kayaks but for kayaking you should beware of tides.

In one word Serenity is peace of heaven!
Thanks to all staffs.

We've just returned home from an amazing 7 days in Serenity Resort, Phuket. It was a delayed honeymoon (after the first one was cancelled due to snow fall in the UK in December) so we'd been looking forward to it for a long time. It lived up to every expectation and we'd head back tomorrow if we could!

Serenity is based on the East coast of the island, which is much quieter than the West coast. We took the free shuttle bus to Patong one evening, but were glad we didn't stay there - Serenity is exactly as the name suggests, so peaceful and beautiful. We stayed put after that, spending 6 full days and nights at the resort. That's no sacrifice, as the food in the restaurant is amazing - literally every dish (from the salads and sandwiches, to the Thai menu) impressed us - and we are real foodies, so not easily impressed! The staff were so friendly too and the service was brilliant.

We had booked a Grand Suite, but were upgraded to a Penthouse Suite, which was a lovely touch. It was so spacious and enjoyed lots of relaxing hours watching DVDs in the room and getting room service too. The views are absolutely breathtaking and I'd really recommend dragging yourself out of bed on at least one of the mornings to watch sunrise as it's spectacular - we did that on the first morning, while still jetlagged, which we're so glad we did as we were far too relaxed to get up early after that!

The pool is gorgeous, with lovely views in the morning (in the afternoon, the tide went out and it wasn't quite so pretty, but just being fussy now!) No need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve sunbeds, as it's very relaxed and there are beds free all the time (a lot of the rooms have their own pools, so the benefit is that the main pool never gets too busy). The breakfast view is the best I've experienced anywhere in the world (what could beat the sun glinting off the sea and view of islands).

Also, a special mention to the spa - which I visited 4 times throughout our stay for 2 x massages and 2 x facials. I'm a beauty journalist and I am very fussy about my treatments - but I was so so impressed. I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant and they took such good care of me, tailoring the treatments so I could still enjoy them. I have never felt so relaxed - and I've been to a lot of spa resorts! - and the treatments are very, very reasonably priced too. It was a real treat to head there every other day throughout our stay.

Finally, one of the evenings we booked a private BBQ on our terrace - a really romantic way to spend an evening. The food was delicious, but the only thing I could fault the resort on is that we were a bit confused by the experience as noone explained what would be happening - should we pick our meat? or would they cook it all? could we leave some of the fish as I was pregnant and husband wasn't keen? when should we head outside to the table? In the end, it was a really lovely experience, but my one bit of advice to the resort would be to work on the communication, as for 500 baht you want to feel relaxed from the very beginning. The staff were really lovely though, I just don't think they'd been briefed to give us an explanation.

I would recommend this resort to everyone - couples, families, travellers wanting a few nights luxury. We will DEFINITELY be heading back!

Room Tip: We had a sneak peek at the villas, which have their own pool - if you can afford it, I'd really recommend it - I think that's what we'll be booking next time. Otherwise, go for a Penthouse Suite or Grand Suite, as they have amazing views of the bay.
