I stayed here in Jun'12 en route a solo ride covering the mae hong son loop from ChiangMai, and these are my opinions. The room is spacious, but old. Instead of timber doors, it has glass sliding doors for entrance. The bed in my room was huge, the timber flooring was dark and gorgeous, and so are wardrobe and other room fittings and fixtures. The swimming pool is located conveniently outside the rooms on the ground level and service is generally good from the hotel staff.
There is not much to do in this part of Mae Hong Son, except to go for a Thai massage (located right beside the hotel's main entrance) or walk around the vicinity to check out shophouses telling agricultural and other grocery and toiletries items.
I was hoping to visit the site where the long neck karen hilltribe lives but did not have a chance to during my one-day transit stay here.
The hotel was generally okay except for its air-conditioning, which I felt was inadequate. It felt warm despite being turned up full blast on the lowest temperature setting. There is not key card key, but old fashioned keylock operating the latch on the glass doors to your room.
If you do stay here, I recommend dining at the Fern Restaurant, which boasts an impressive menu at very affordable prices. To get there, make a left when you step out of the hotel. After about 150m or so, you will approach a Y junction - keep right. Continue walking and you will find Fern Restaurant on your right. Besides a nice dining environment, it also provides decent wifi with strong signal. Give Sunflower restaurant a skip.

Lonely Planet rates this hotel in the high range. Since they did this a lot must have happened.

LP describes the place as clean, cozy and with a nice garden. The latter is true, but the place is becoming old and shabby. Prices already dropped to 1000thb including bf. Shabby rooms, dirty, dirty walls and bedsheets. Old woodwork on the stairs.

Cannot recommend anyone to go there. We crashed there because no tuctucs were riding anymore (late because our bus broke) however for that money you have a lot of nice places where you can stay much better.

I can recommend Pana Huts. If you like cottages in the jungle :-)

Could do with a refurbishment, but is clean and comfortable. There is an excellent pool and plenty of leafy shade with easy chairs around the pool. There's also an outdoor dining area with atmospheric decor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is a short walk from the centre of town.

If you like great service at quiet place, this is the right hotel. It is placed 2 min by tuk tuk or motorbike from the airport, from the city and nigth marked.
There are 24 hour service at the reception and it is possible to book tours at their tour desk. The atmosphere is relaxed and very likely and quiet plance.

This clearly used to be a very nice hotel once. Now there are many, many small things that need to be improved in order for Mountain Inn to be a place again to recommend.

The facilities are still there, the pool e.g. was very nice, but service, room quality, etc. were all not up to standard.
