A Unique Experience

Review of Bamboo House
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Nov 2018
Seemed like a long walk from the Museum in the hot sun; we had a large spacious room which was very basic and also empty. Seemed like a family business and they were accommodating but not very friendly or helpful. The grounds were well kept with lots of attractive seating and nearby individual thatched cottages. Reasonable basic breakfast but the Mum and Dad were not at all friendly or helpful - just talked to each other in Thai and ignored the guests - we felt like we were intruders. But it was cheap and quiet.

Room Tip: Possibly a bungalow would be nice.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in terms of value for the money. We booked a bamboo bungalow near the river which was very nice. It was a bit less than 1,000 bath and we were very happy with it. Breakfast was also included.
Good place for the kids I guess. They can play in front of the bungalows on the grass lane.
It is close to the River Kwae Bridge. You can rent a bicycle at the hotel or even walk (about 10 minutes I guess).

A fine hotel .... close, but no cigars! We stayed in one of their raft rooms on the river. Beautiful view and quiet, except for the thin walls and the exceedingly LOUD party boats that float back and forth every evening between 7 and 11, destroying any thought of a tranquil sunset and evening. Bathrooms not quite up to scratch, and very hard beds. They serve breakfast, nice spread, including lots of ants, except that everything is sitting there in the open since dawn, so that if you have breakfast at 9, everything is cold, including the fried eggs. When I said something she offered to put the eggs back in the frying pan and heat them up: no thank you. But the lawn is lovely, staff is not unfriendly, and it’s really close to the famous bridge on the river Kwai.

We (two adults and two children) arrived around 15:00 and were taken to our roon, a hut with a balcony on the river. It has no toilet, shower or air conditioning... but we knew all that. What we didn’t know (or missed), was the fact that it’s a floating hut. Taking under consideration that it’s a busy river with long tail speed boats speeding along it all day, the hut rocks almost all the time. The bolcony is very narrow and fits a chair and your feet. We understood that although it may be cool for some, it’s not for us. We asked to change room and since they were rooms available, they moved us (for extra charge, still very reasonable) to one of the rooms around the green yard which was very nice. Added one mattress fot one of the children and we were good. The place is very clean and the bedding smells nice. It’s in a great location in a walking distance from the bridge and the bars and so called night life area. The kids really loved the place. Breakfast is simple and good. All in all... a great experience. If we weren’t on a schedule, we’d make the three days visit a fiver easily.

we've stayed twicw in this place: june 2017 as a couple and on July 2018 as a family (2 adults and 3 teenagers).

we stayed at the raft house and the bungalows.
first- the bungalow: nice clean room with hard bed (if you have issues with hard beds which is typical for non-luxury hotels and guest houses in Thailand), shower with hot water, small fridge and powerful air-con (set it to night/sleep mode, otherwise it will freeze you). there is a nice garden and river view. the garden it self is buetiful: wide lawn, with sitting spots viewing the river. nice.

the raft house is the reall gem: it has the same amnesties as the bungalows but it flats on the river providing you with full privacy. the porch is facing the river side and since there are no houses or buildings on the other bank, it feels like you are alone there. also, starting from 4 PM until 8, the karaoke boats the go up and down stream provide hilarious scenery (its not to loud due to the distance, but still close enough to enjoy)- the kids loved it. its so funny :)

breakfast is what you expect from a mid range guest house: basic with eggs, toasts, coffee and sometime tasty rice soup.

we will defiantly come back

Room tip: raft house- by far

Great atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. Whilst they struggle with English honestly it's just part of the charm. The views and rooms were brilliant and loved every second of it, will be staying here again
