Good value, not too far walking distance from town

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 21 Feb 2012
This review has been a bit late in coming, I'm not sure why, perhaps I've been a little lazy.
Anyway the Sundance Hua Hin was one of the better value hotels I could find in Hua Hin. The rooms were comfortable, although the bathroom in my Superior Room was rather small, but I've grown to expect that in this price range throughout Thailand.
I don't remember anything special about Sundance, but I don't remember anything that would cause me disappointment either. The breakfast was good, the staff didn't speak very good English, but funnily enough I was in Thailand and didn't speak the best Thai either, so who is to blame?!
The pool was a welcome feature, though the spa wasn't working when I was there. To their credit, I did see technicians come and work on it though, not sure if they managed to finish fixing it as I was only there for two nights.
The hotel is not right in the centre of town, but it is still walking distance (behind the San Paulo Hospital on Phetchkasem Road) to the night market, railway station, restaurant and beach areas. It's a fair walk, but nothing too bad. You can always try catching a songthaew if you're feeling lazy, and you'll be laughing if you have a scooter.
This isn't a resort, but it's a clean and nice hotel, close enough to the centre of town, for a reasonable price. The website is currently making it out to be some kind of "wellness resort", maybe because it's attached to a hospital, but really it was just a normal hotel when I was there.

We stayed in a junior suite for 9 nights and we loved the hotel and location was fab. The staff were exremelly friendly especially the receptionist. The cleaner was lovely and always went the extra mile for us by cleaning our room so thoroughly, washing the dishes and even cleaning the room when we left late in the afternoon sometimes. They also had a baby cot which was really good for us. The location is really good, theres a market just around the corner and also walking distance to the market village. Many great places to eat around the hotel and good places for massage. All in all a lovely place to stay and relax. We would def stay here again. Breakfast was nothing special but we missed that most mornings anyway due to jet lag.

Room tip: junior suite rooms past the pool are better

We´ve stayed in Sundance hotel for 5 nights. Hotel is next to on of the Night Market in Hua Hin. You can get to the sea by walk in 7 minutes. Rooms are ok, excellent is hotel´s pool with jacuzzi. Breakfast are good, but every day very similar. I can recommend to the hotel have better internet, which is in a good quality on all floors. Hotel´s staff is really friendly and very professional. I can recommend this hotel for all travelers, who are going to Hua Hin.

We stayed 2 nights in a Junior Suite. The bedrooms and bathrooms were impressive, nice and large (50 sq m) so reminded one of home, with excellent views south and west of Hua Hin as we were on the top, 5th Floor. Décor was a little dated but perfectly fine and everything in the hotel was very clean. Could have done with a couple of comfy chairs in the room but it did have a desk/table and upright chairs plus a counter/bar and sink! Lots of storage space. Beds were comfy, mattresses just right, not too hard. Mini fridge in the room, much better than mini bar as one could then fill the fridge with one's own stuff. Good aircon.
Staff were friendly and obliging. Nice old style feel to the hotel with big open spaces & open, though covered, room corridors. Breakfast was a buffet and not the best quality but had a selection of Western and Thai dishes and was at least eatable. There was even a small pool though we didn't bother with it. Lots of parking available, a major asset.
Location was excellent, fairly central in Hua Hin right next to one Night Market and a few minutes walk from the second Hua Hin Night Market – though both had gone down significantly in quality compared to previous years. Also about 5/6 mins walk north of the new Market Village Mall with its big Tesco Lotus plus 2 minutes walk south of an excellent Villa Supermarket. Nearest beach access was by the side of the Sofitel, about 10 mins walk away and because of the main road, the Sundance was not so good a location if you want to spend much time on the beach.

Room tip: Rooms on the top, 5th Floor, are the quietest. Also with a Junior Suite the rooms are at the end of the building so have views on 3 sides.

This hotel has only been open for about a year, so it's mostly unknown. But the rooms are nice and new, and attractive. The beds are firm, but not rock-hard like in other Thai hotels. Cable TV, but only 3 channels for foreigners (sports, BBC, and Star Movies). Breakfast from 7am to 10am, and it's adequate. Very nice staff, although their English isn't the greatest. A good location, in between the night market and the Tesco shopping center. There's also a supermarket with lots of imported products just a few steps away. Overall it was very quiet and I slept well. A very pretty pool, although it's a little small. It's possible to walk to the hotel from the train station if you're traveling light. Very satisfied with this place, therefore the 5 out of 5 rating (considering it's new, and the price is so low, especially when booking online through those Thai agencies).
