We had a brilliant time at this lovely resort with impressive architecture and gardens!
The hosts, Ya and Mark, are very friendly, extremely helpful and excellent chefs.
The area is quite and still so much to see!

Thank you so much!

We had a number of issues that meant that we had a somewhat frustrating stay at this Homestay, instead of going home relaxed and rejuvenated! We thought we had booked a cozy, super comfy, homey, soft and pillowed room with a tasty breakfast option each day and the possibility of lovely dinners in the evening. Instead we got a cold, stark, uncomfortable, damp and noisy room. And ended up eating no meals at all at the homestay as we had no idea how it all worked. (we did find a sensational café in town however, ran by beautiful caring owners, and had brekky there all three mornings we stayed in Chiang Rai)

Effectively, our room was never once cleaned properly during our three night stay. When the room was finally given a tiny bit of attention, (it was never actually cleaned, just a couple of refills were given) it was only AFTER we requested it, this happened twice. I understand that your policy is to try and not disturb your guests, however, this does not mean that the room just does not get cleaned! Even a little guest room pack of clean towels, toilet paper, soap etc. left on the doorstep or even nearby around the corner would be a nice touch, at least then we would feel cared for. However this did not happen. Or perhaps a phone line to the main house could be installed to make communication far easier and less invasive. And the privacy of guests could be maintained also.

We did not find the room to be comfortable. The bed was extremely hard, (and we have lived in Asia for almost 3 years now, so we know a little about hard beds!) there were no bedside tables, so phones and drinks etc. just had to sit on the floor, no bedside lamps???? So we had to walk across the room to turn lights out? There was no place for two people to sit inside other than the bed, which meant we had to sit on the bed to enjoy wine/cheese etc., which is a bit weird and awkward, especially with no bedside tables! The room smelt damp, the floor of the shower was slippery, perhaps from black mould or algae, there is no shelf or place to put shampoo or conditioner or soap etc. in the shower area. This forces you to take steps during your shower over the already slippery mouldy floor towards the bathroom sink which is annoying to get soap etc. (By the way, however, the coconut shampoo smelled amazing, loved it!) This is only a little thing, but we have these things in our little condo in Chiang Mai, so would expect that we would be more comfortable, not less, when PAYING to stay somewhere! The room feels very unfinished, although if a number of creature comforts were installed, it could be really homely. But its not!
We also missed having a tv in the room. I am guessing perhaps that the owners are working on the theory that the view is beautiful, so why have a TV? But I think it’s important to let the guests decide what they want to look at and how they want to relax. It was especially annoying on the first night having to listen to the loud noises of the people upstairs watching TV, and yet we were not even given that option. It seems from the website, the cheaper rooms, without the “view”, DO have TV’s, however the more expensive rooms do not? The room we stayed in may have not have been advertised as having a tv, but I just assumed this was an error as the cheaper rooms DID include a tv, but I guess in a sense this my fault for not checking properly when booking. Still, its weird.

Both afternoons we had to put up with two things, firstly we could never quite settle and have a nap or whatever as we could hear the very loud noises of the cleaning maid upstairs, we could hear her vacuuming and walking around and opening and closing doors. So this was an issue in itself, as it kept us awake and from having our precious afternoon naps, at our age we really need them from time to time, especially on holidays! But further to this, because we could so clearly HEAR the maid, we just assumed that our room was next to be cleaned, so that was always in the back of our mind, that surely she would come down soon and clean our room! We always kept one ear/eye open thinking she would come, (we ran out of toilet paper!) but imagine our surprise after all those hours when we realised that she was never coming at all, in fact she never even asked us if we wanted the room cleaned, which was especially surprising as it had not been cleaned the day before either. We were also disappointed in the way the poor maid was quickly blamed for this- really this problem lies with training and management. Its the owners fault, not the poor Thai maid.

We felt there is also a communication breakdown with the provision of food, we were unsure about breakfast, when it started, and what was on the menu. The same goes for dinner. I am absolutely sure this information would have been provided had we asked for it, in a very friendly and welcoming manner too, however there are no phones in the rooms, and running upstairs just to make enquiries about these things is not a particularly appealing thought, especially when it is just an enquiry, just to see what our options are, I hope that makes sense.

In summing up, we both felt that the homestay is running and being managed perhaps in a way that is convenient to the owners, but that management style is causing inconvenience to the paying guests. There are no menu’s printed, no way of requesting whether the room can be cleaned and when, breakfast is charged in addition to the nightly rate, and our room is definitely missing some very important “homely” touches and finishes that could have made our stay very pleasant and feel like it was value for money.

Mark and partner both seem like really lovely people, these complaints are NOT to be taken personally. They are not an attack on you guys! I hope you take these suggestions on board however, because we were quite disappointed. I think sometimes because at this homestay the guests are dealing directly with the owners, people do not always say exactly how they feel, and therefore neglect to mention the negative things.

I know it sounds like we are chronic whingers, I can assure you we are not! We have stayed in hundreds of different accommodations, some amazing, some gorgeous, some just ok, some downright dodgy and we know you only ever get what you pay for, in this case we well and truly didn’t feel like we got what we paid for.
Your place has a very beautiful, idyllic setting but was let down by the unfinished room and lack of personal care for your guests comfort. The homestay is surrounded by lovely gardens, but this does not excuse the rest of the problems we had.
We did not expect the sheets to be changed every day, but to have the bed neatened, floor swept, bathroom cleaned, bins emptied, water/coffee/toilet paper/glasses replaced and towels renewed WITHOUT having to ask BOTH DAYS we feel is not expecting too much of you.
We had the overriding impression from you that you didn’t really care about us or our stay, you wanted/needed our money and no bother with it. I am not sure why you have not replied to our email either, you left us with no choice but to post this public review.

Thank you for your review, we can see that you put a lot of effort into it.
Honestly, we were astonished by your review. We put a lot of effort in managing our home-stay in the best way possible and offering our guests a great experience. It seems we mostly manage to achieve this based on our outstanding reviews. So we really asked ourselves what made you write this kind of review. Of course we appreciate constructive criticism as long as it is based on the truth or what happened. We introduced ourselves as owners, explained that we are always present and in case you need our assistance for anything (including food options) and can not find us you just ring the bell on our main terrace. You managed to do so when you asked for ice cubes....
We received your email complaining and requesting a refund and "offering" to write "an honest review on Tripadvisor" a few hours after you just drove away without checking out and returning the room key. We did reply instantly but never received your follow-up and now we have to read that we never replied...
The golden rule for hoteliers is that the guest is always right and you have to reply with sweet talk to any biased review but sometimes it really does not feel right. As it feels in this case. We took the effort to read your other "honest" Tripadvisor reviews and based on that you same to be a chronic whinger (sorry, your own words). Almost all your reviews are full of complaints, how bad a business is managed or how terrible the food is and claiming refunds. Sorry that we were that 'kind of business' to you but luckily not to all our honest guests.

The design is very cozy and clam. You really touch the nature here. However, I stay in the ground level room which the house is made from wood. So I could here the noice from upper floor. Unfortunately, the guest upstairs walked all night.
The room inside is quite big. But the shower room has no section between shower and toilet. So, when you take a bath, water splits all over and the whole bath room floor is wet.
You can spend the whole day with book and coffee at bench in front of room.

Beautiful property north of the city center. Great location if you don't want to be in the middle of the city, and want access to nature. We spent the day biking through rice fields (on the free bikes from the hotel) and hiking to a nearby waterfall. The rooms are clean and modern, with comfortable beds. The property is gorgeous and has a perfect spot to watch the sunset.

It is run by an absolutely lovely couple who was a joy to chat with and cooked us a delicious traditional Thai dinner with ingredients bought that day at the local market.

I would definitely recommend staying here!

This place is totally amazing! This is one of the best resorts I have ever been to in Asia. Lovely and charming little Boutique Home where you can relax and enjoy the peace without being in the middle of all the city hubbub. The place is very green, very calm and well taken care of- I can think of many words to describe it but this is the first one which sums it all.The setting is so beautiful and peaceful, you immediately feel relaxed and, at home, without losing any time. You are only 20 minutes away from Chiang Rai. It's architecture and design is perfectly integrated into the landscape along the Nang Lae. I stayed 6 nights (Chidchol room - facing to the garden) at this wonderful home , but not least, the manager himself Mark and his wife shared all the time necessary to show around, advise on what to do. The only regret I have today is that time went to fast and all those good things have to come to an end; I will definitely visit this place during my next visit to Thailand.
I highly recommend this paradise!!!
Thank you so much Mark
