The place is huge and busy, early in the morning is the best time to visit Take your time to observe the people´s expression and how they pay respect

Chiang Saen is a small city that has so many ancient temples, some of which lasts for more than 700 years. you can still see the remains from 13th Centuries. Book a tour that take you on a cute small tuk tuk and travel to the city by the Mekong river, learn the history of Lanna Kingdom and enjoy shopping at the local market.

On the banks of the Mekong river there is plenty to do here, explore the riverside markets, take a river boat ride and visit loas, check out the hilltop temples or the museums or just sit and try the local cuisine - i have visited here a few times when i have been in northern thialand

The town and museum reflect the beauty of the original Lanna Kingdom capitol. The museum is worth visiting though it is small and some items have been sent to the National Museum in Bangkok. Although the walls of the city were destoyed centuries ago, the reconstuction 40 years ago still gives one a sense of what the area would have looked like.

After visiting several attractions with the Golden Triangle as the last stop, we thought we were all ready to go back to Chiang Rai. But no, we still had to visit Chiang Saen!

Our visit was focused on the ancient site, its stupa/chedi, river, and walls. Building materials are noted near this attraction. It seemed to be undergoing some restorations.

The signage said, Wat Chedi Luang that has the same name of my favorite wat in Chiang Mai. We were told that this wat was built first, then the one in Chiang Rai.
