“Turning a house into home for travelers”
Reviewed 23 April 2012

A big white house with wooden & granny-styled furnitures, always kept clean. The owner, Ms. Nong, welcomed us with hospitality & was very helpful in arranging our sightseeing tour with a hired car & nice chauffer, Mr. Phon.

Rooms were tidy & they cleaned them for us everyday just like in a hotel.
Brakfast (choices of pancake, toasts, fruits, milk, etc) is served outdoor, felt like having a picnic.
good wifi connection, normally turned on from 7am to 10ish pm, but if you need longer just ask the staff.

Location is quite strategic. it's near some temples that tourists often visit, a good 10 minutes walk from the traditional market, less than 30minutes walk to the night market, with lots of cafes & restaurants along the way.

Room Tip: Staying on 2nd floor rooms would give you more privacy & better window view

We stayed here for two nights. The room was bright and clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was included free and the staff helped us out with contacting an organisation and translating some Thai as well. They also had recommendations of where to go and how. Would definitely stay here again.

This was our first visit to Chiang Rai and booked this place based on its reviews. It is a very nice little guest house that is located in a good part of Chiang Rai. The owner is very helpful and friendly and speaks good english. The rooms are very clean and quite large and the room number 3 has a huge kingsized bed. We were able to hire motorcycles from here for 250 baht for the day. The house is an old villa about 15 minutes walk from the night bazzar and restruants. I recommend Ti Amo Cafe House for food and the great milshakes which is just near by.

The only downsides to this accomdation is that it has a shared bathroom and is not really what you would call hot water. The other thing was some information that was given to us. We wanted to visit the Golden Triangle and were told that it was only about 40km out of the city. This was not accurate as it was well over 80km possibly 100km one way and some of the roads are quite poor. This information would have changed our decision to take a bike there. We spent well over 7 hours doing the round trip. This could have been avoided had we taken a car, and so put a slight dampener on the trip up here. I would recommend taking a bus, car or tour there as it is a long trip from start to finish. A little frustrating as we only had 1 day here.

Apart from that that I would recommend this guest house as a place to stay in Chiang Rai.

I booked by emailing the owner and reserved the "Leelawadee Room" which is a king bed room on the first floor - an extremely spacious room with super comfortable bed and quality fresh bed linen. The guest house is an old villa, and there is a little sitting area by reception, and a shared kitchen ( where you can make tea and coffee, all included in the room rate, and crockery and cutlery should you wish to cook or bring food home from the market) , and it it pretty much evident that this was once someone's house. Nong, the owner, also keeps a really lovely garden at the back, and there are plenty of places to sit in during the day. Two computers are available free of charge for guests, and other lovely touches include bath robes to use in the shared bathrooms. Although the bathroom is shared between two or three rooms, I never had to wait to use the bathroom - which is very simple but perfectly adequate and kept meticulously clean.

The guest house is indeed situated on a fairly busy road and the school across the road may give you a wake-up call at 7am, however, this was not an issue at all for me - at night it was very quiet. More importantly, the house is in a lovely residential area only minutes walk from some lovely wats which see few tourists yet less than ten minutes walk from the rather underwhelming night market.

Nong is a wonderful hostess - she has plenty of impartial advice for trips in the area - and what she said was pretty much spot-on. This is one of the more memorable guest houses I stayed in SE Asia, and I would definitely stay there again.
