We spent a week there in July-August 2013, it was just perfect. The family welcomed us and it was great to hang out in the restaurant overlooking Ao Leuk Bay. I have fond memories of the owner who was very helpful and his children who played with my daughter. Great stay!

This was an amazing place and just what we were looking for in a budget place with great views and beach access. The rooms were very basic and nothing special but the setting is what sold us. We enjoyed the food and variety and ate pretty much every meal here. The beach was just a step away and great for snorkeling. Many of the tours would stop by this bay to snorkel. The owner and staff were nice and it was nice to see a family operation. We extended our stay a couple of nights because we loved it so much. The only downside to this place which is why I put it at 4 star instead of a 5 is that on our second night a big water tanker arrived into the bay at night and set anchor. They proceeded to start pumping water into tanks on land for this area of the island. What was once a quite peaceful bay was now filled with a tanker with bright lights and constant humming noise of the pump. After extending our stay we ended up leaving early because we didn't see any end in sight of the tanker. It was still there when we left. My guess is that this isn't something you can plan for and would love to go back to this place again. The price was right for the room, food and drinks and loved the simplicity. Here is the website if you are trying to find out more information: http://www.aowleuk2.com/

Room Tip: I would go for the furthest from the restaurant and highest up for the best views.

Quiet little beach for those looking to escape the crowds, the bungalows are nice and big with beautiful views, and hammocks on the verandah. They're probably a bit overpriced (we paid 1300) for what they are, I've stayed in similar for 600 baht on phagnan. The bathrooms have open windows with spectacular views of the ocean (nothing like a good view while you're showering or sitting on the toilet) but are private so others can't see you. Not sure of it was the weather while we were there for three days or if it's always like this but the beach was not the calm still water of most thai beaches, there were actually waves you could body surf on. The problem was the staff always seemed angry and rude. If you asked for a menu they seem to throw it at you and walk away. These boys seemingly didn't get the memo about Thailand being the land of smiles! The only time I saw them happy was when they caught and killed a water snake with the knife the previous reviewer was threatened with!

We booked for 4 nights at the beginning of July, ended up staying only 1 and that was to much.
we had booked one of the new more expensive rooms 200bt per night, it was less than basic, no furniture whatsoever other than the bed, no where to hang your clothes or put your belongings,
there where no chairs on the balcony, only an old cloth hammock, that was tied so low it dragged on the floor, without anyone being in it. Other bungalows did appear to have a couple of chairs, but not ours room 6. the owner picked us up from the pier, he made no attempt at friendliness on the journey, despite our efforts to chat and ask questions, on arrival he simply dumped our bags at the door gave us a key and walked off. for us the biggest disappointment was the rubbish, strewn everywhere. the hillside down to the beach directly in front of our balcony was covered in litter, bottles, and what looked like the remains of the old bungalows they had torn down, to build the new luxury ones lol.
the gardens where very neglected dried out lily pads and dying plants, like no one had bothered to water them in months, the whole place stank of neglect and apathy.
The restaurant was staffed by some of the rudest most sullen people I have ever come across
I asked for a drink without ice, was eventually served a drink with ice, no problem I thought, I will get an empty glass to pour the ice into, oh no. guests are not allowed an empty glass, this caused such a problem for them, we were shouted at and stared at and made to feel most uncomfortable.
Also steps down to beach and immediate beach area again full of litter, so sad to see such a lovely place being run down and unloved, We persevered for 1 night and left first thing the next morning, asking the driver to take us anywhere at all, we knew we could not find worse.
I would not stay here again for free, I understand some of the rubbish may be from the tourists,
but it really looked like most of it was the hotels own rubbish, and either way, they have some responsibility to look after their surroundings, and plenty of lazy staff who could keep the place clean.

Room Tip: go somewhere else, anywhere else !

The bungalows are roomy, the bathroom is clean with the standard cold shower but no mosquito mesh to cover the open window, so be prepared with mosquito coil and repellent. We had a spacious terrace with two chairs and a table, cushions and a hammock. The bungalows are on a hillside overlooking the bay of Aow Leuk, and they have lovely sea views ( the higher up the better the view).

If you're planning to stay for a longer period, contact the place directly, as they might give you a better deal.

We found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They have a breezy restaurant by the beach with nice views of Aow Leuk beach and the sea. The food was tasty, the fruit shakes were delicious and the prices budget friendly. Nothing much is going on after the restaurant closes, however, but it's just a 10 minute motorbike ride from Mae Haad. The road is steep and curvy in places but most of it is paved, and there's dirt tracks the last bit to the beach. This is the perfect place to come if you'd like some peace and quiet in idyllic surroundings.

Room Tip: All the bungalows have sea views, but the bungalows on top of the hill has the best views.
