My husband and I unexpectedly ran into some good friends from London while we were attending a wedding in Galle. Having been to the area once before we wanted them to enjoy all the sights and sounds and thought what better way to spend the one day we could squeeze in with them than drinking beer and taking in the scene via tuk tuks. We had also done the Tuk Tuk Safari in Columbo a few years back and had a ball so knew we'd be in for an adventure.

Our impeccably dressed drivers took us on a whirlwind tour beginning with a roadside king coconut and then the most delicious home cooking!! We had a ball helping the lovely cook whip up the tastiest tuna balls, papadums, mango curry, rice, potato curry and our friend mashed up a delicious (and fiery) chilli sambal in a gigantic mortal and pestle. The stunning lake where we wrapped up our tour was the picture of stillness and a real tranquil surprise from the hustle and bustle of Galle road.

Would highly recommend the tour for a great way to get off the beaten track and see how the locals live off the back streets and away from the tourist scene. Loved it!

So I was sitting there having my morning coffee at my favourite hangout in Madiha, The Doctors House, and a lovely bearded man walks on over and asks me and my friend if we'd like to do a tuk tuk safari in Galle. "Suuurree, why not!" We said. A couple hours later we were introduced to a pair of sharply dressed, handsome yet humble tuk tuk drivers. Bob Marley and Little Pumba. Once the introductions were over we were offered an almost sub-zero yellow canister of enjoyment (Lion), blew the froff off the tops and away we went. The sight seeing coordinators drive with such control and grace that the normal stress of spilling your beer whilst sight seeing is thrown out the magnificently, eye captivatingly brilliant tuk tuks.

A vast number of cultural, social and architectural sites were visited on the journey. One minute we were learning to cook local cuisine at a lovely little spot aside one of Sri Lanka's famous rail lines, the next minute we're on a boat, amongst the mangroves and forest of Lake Koggala on our way to a cinnamon plantation on an island in the middle of the lake! You wouldn't read about it!

Any who I could ramble on for hours here but I've got better things to do. I think that Tuk Tuk Safaris was an overwhelmingly enjoyable experience that I'll cherish for a very long time, hence the title. A day to remember.

My bestie and I basically stumbled across the Tuk Tuk Safari while staying @thedoctorshouse south of Mirrisa. Annnnnd it was a beautiful thrill seeking surprise!! Luxury convertible Tuktuks with the most hospitable drivers. Cold beers. Lunch at a local Sri Lankan home. Stick fishing... yeap that’s where thrills really kicked in we then jumped on a boat and trekked out into the jungle of cinnamon!! Finished off with magical sunsets and a load of laughs!! Highly recommended it

Rocking up at the Doctors House to find 3 awesome pimped out tuktuks waiting for us,
roof off, cold beer in hand and an AUX cable so be sure to bring the tunes but no worries if you forget as the drivers have some cool playlist.
So after rocking out on the way to Galle we stop off at a local house/Kitchen to drink tea and cook ourselves a local curry with some lovely lady's ( monkeys came to share though left disappointed as it was too good to share :)
Next stop was... well first more beer, they really pimped us out with more than enough.
So off to the beach to check out some local fishermen who were kind enough to share some arrack. Spice garden tour was also included so you definitely pack in a lot of activity in the time frame. The drivers had such huge personality and couldn't have been more friendly and willing to answer any questions thrown there way.
Ending the trip back to the Doctors House for Pizza and Beer.
