Owner description: During World War II 563 Destroyer Escorts battled Nazi U-Boats on the North Atlantic protecting convoys of men and supplies. In the Pacific, they stood first in line to defend naval task forces from Kamikaze attacks. Today only one remains afloat in America. Step back in time. Return to 1945 aboard USS SLATER. See how Sailors worked, hear the sounds of a living ship, touch a piece of American history, and walk the decks where hundreds of Sailors have walked before.

Our tour guide Dan (who's a retired navy volunteer) over the 1 1/2 hour tour made the USS Slater and World War II and what those sailors went through just come alive! It's "the only" remaining Destroyer Escort still a float in the country! It's been totally restored by volunteers. I would totally recommend it for families. We had a Veteran from the Korean War and his wife, a family from India, a family from Ohio and many locals. Totally worth the trip!

We visited this ship and was pleasantly surprised just how much our 8 and 6 year old could do and touch. We loved it so much our Cub Scout troop visited a month later and stayed over night. They had a great time.

Once I'd found my way into the car park... it was a great visitor attraction. Really helpful US navy guide takes you around and explains everything. To realise what life must have been like crossing the Nort Atlantic in all weathers was truly appreciated. The highlight perhaps seeing how the officers dined as opposed to the ordinary seamen. As it ever was I guess.

the tour was well done by sailers who actually sailed on the ship.
we saw the war rooms where the crew was informed by the leaders.
