This fort is not well maintained at this time, but to enjoy it in the condition that it is also quite interesting, it can provide an overview of the conditions in the past, where the fort is still functioning.

The addition of a number of tourism supporting facilities is quite interesting, the Water boom and some traditional traditional houses provide more value for tourists to enjoy together holidays and tours, Fun on Heritage.

History of this benteng is rich! I mean truly rich! But since this benteng is under Pemda or Provincial Gov. The development is poorly executed, wthin the last 7 years none of the site of this benteng were devwloped significantly.

My standard is high, I want some serious historical rich that bring proud, joy and gloriousness to its generation, but when you visit this benteng, well frankly speaking, you got only 1% history and 99% gloomy traditional house that almost abandoned, destroyed paving stone, a vew meters of the benteng remaing wall and...

Just go there, proof by your self what I talk about

Not well maintained of course when I visit this place. It would've been a very good place for hanging out and for sport activities as well (besides for history or educational perposes). Many traditional houses are abandoned and dirty. Just...not presentable yet. That's all. But there are many buffaloes.

Located in southern part of Makassar. Somba Opu Fort is a historic place. When we come here, the location on Google Map is off by about 1 km. So we lost to some location with traditional Sulawesi Houses. There is also a museum here to see traditional tribe and history of Somba Opu. The fortress itself is not like usual fortress. It is mainly a earthwork / brick-wall on only one side with semi destroyed building which was their rally point.

It is said that Somba Opu Fortress is completely destroyed by Colonial Force, so it is in the middle of uncovering project, though the project have been going on for years with slow progress

The area is quite large, there are several traditional houses from different area/tribe/kingdom of South Sulawesi are being displayed.
The remaining of the Benteng/Fort itself is not that much. I believe it needs much more excavation, hence more everything. Just short visit to take a look at & take pictures of the remaining was all I need at that time. It needs to be taken care of more seriously if we want to attract more visitors.
