The dinner was arranged as a Birthday celebration. We were staying at another hotel CICADA and decided to visit Mandapa to try its cuisine at the Kabu. The hotel is hidden down some side street off the main road. You enter into a small courtyard where you are met by the hotel staff. All the staff were very friendly and made us welcome. To get to the Kabu you have to take the hotel buggy which takes you down through the hotel grounds.
On arriving we were shown to our table in a Kabu. a bamboo structure in a cocoon shape.
The Kabu’s are located next to the river with a viewing window to look out onto the forest and the river. The noise of the water is very soothing and adds to the atmosphere of the meal.
The dinner we had was a set meal of ten courses. There was also a vegetarian option of those courses.
Our waitress for the evening was Dian. She gave excellent service throughout our meal.
On serving each course she would explain the ingredients and how they were prepared. The restaurant wasn’t busy so all the courses were served in an adequate time frame. The portions though were very small so if you have a big appetite you will be disappointed .
The quality of the food was excellent. Each course provided you with a different taste and texture. There was great emphasis on the presentation of the food with different styles of plates for each course. The meal was expensive but it was an enjoyable experience.
If you are having the ten course set menu then allow plenty of time for your meal. We were there for nearly three hours. In summary an enjoyable expensive evening that I would recommend trying once.
