If you are complaining that ubud is becoming very commercialized, it's quite true, but here at mandala desa, you'll experience how ubud should have been.

firstly, the place itself. it's a simple property with 2 villas and a building with a several rooms. so expect personal touch to your stay here. there's a lovely swimming pool by the paddy field- very nice. i stayed at the villa, with a bedroom looking out to the paddy field. there's a outdoor sitting, and a wonderful balinese-styled patio... they outdoor shower is simply bliss, although the design of the tub could be better especially for physically-challenged resident.

food wise, the breakfast is good. love the tomato omelette. the other meals give you the home-cooked feel, which is good as well.

service is personal. you can ask the staff for assistance, be it recommendations or transport arrangement. they are reasonably flexible. forget the bike tour, mandala desa has bikes where you can cycle around the surrounding villages.

jacintha wasn't around during my stay, but she made it a point to meet up on the last day when i was checking out. it' really nice of her :)

overall, i enjoyed my stay alot at mandala desa. especially the evenings when you can simply do nothing but enjoy the night with the sound of crickets and harmless bats. if you feel bored, you can discover the joy of reading, or if you must, you can surf the net as wi-fi is provided.

Room Tip: get the bikes, and cycle around to discover the villages around mandala desa

I've been to many nice places, but Mandaladesa really touched me as something special. It just has it all: a beautiful location amidst paddy fields at the edge of a quiet village, 4 authentic and spacious balinese villa's and rooms, a lovely swimming pool, friendly staff with genuine care and a personal touch to everything: fresh frangipani flowers in the rooms, delicious food for reasonable prices, free shuttle services to the airport and nearby places like Ubud, free wifi. And above all a peaceful, tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. I could just sit the whole day on my balcony and watch the changing daylight, the playful birds and butterflies and the farmers tending to their fields. It was like a taste of heaven. Thanks, Jacinta and team, for your kind service and dedicated care!

We went on a 2 week holiday to Hong Kong and Bali and spent 3 nights at Mandela Desa. We arrived in the evening and have to admit that initially we did feel it was a bit remote, however we soon realised we were the perfect distance from Ubud. The hotel takes you into Ubud and picks you up from wherever you would like. We spent a day in Ubud and it was absolutely packed it was nice going back to the peaceful environment of the hotel. We stayed in one of the villas and it was huge! It was such a treat to have breakfast overlooking the padi fields and the staff were so friendly. They booked a trip for us to go white water rafting which was fantastic and definately recommended. They also lent us bikes and we cycled to a local market which we preferred to the busy touristy market in Ubud. We would also recommend Cafe Wayan for dinner in Ubud as we ate out quite a bit and this was the best food we had. Mandela Desa is really special and we felt very lucky to have booked it.

Room Tip: Choose a villa if you can

Living in a busy city, we were really glad to have found Mandala Desa and spent 3 nights in this wonderful accomadation. The tranquality of the place, awesome ricefield view, great tasting food with good prices to match it as well! We woke up fresh and happy everyday, looking forward to the day's breakfast and exploring of Ubud town.
As the hotel is located quite a distance from the city center (that's what makes it special and peaceful), we do need to trouble the hotel stuff quite a bit to send and pick us up. Pick ups aren't often on time and we had to call the hotel to see whether have we been forgotten! The hot water in the room isn't as reliable, thus stopping us to have a hot bath. Besides these, everything else was really wonderful. There was not hard selling of tours and they even arrange kecak dance on the hotel's grounds. The price can be shared by the other suites and villas.

We just came from a quite busy trip in Sumba, Indonesia and loved the calmth of beautiful Mandela Desa. We arrived quite unexpectedly which was a reason for the hotel to quickly prepare our room. While waiting we got a nice drink and some Bali snacks. The room was beautifull and large and we could really relax before exploring the neighbourhood, which was the nicest I've seen in Bali. The mother of the hotel owner actually took us for a walk to see where the locals did their "mandi" (bathing).
Later we swam in the hotel's nice poor and ate in a cottage right next to it.

It was wonderful. Thanks Mandela Desa and thank you Jacinta!
