Where do I begin, we got to the place where we signed up for the white water rafting & paid. We are a family of 4 (2 adults & 1 teenager aged 17 & 1 child aged 7) .
We were assigned a instructor for our raft called Billy who we were told was I his last year of education making him 18. We were concerned that he was young& inexperienced however we wanted to trust the company and what we were being told.
The raft could hold up to 6 people & 1 instructor, we were placed with 2 other women who were also quite young. We then were told to walk to the river which was down 300 stairs!! They were very steep & slippery we were very concerned about our 7 year old however we luckily were ok.
To shorten up the experience for you, everything was going great!! We were having so much fun until around 15 mins before the end of the rafting. We were in the middle of the rapids when we saw there was a large rock under a tree & our instructor said to paddle backwards, all the other boats had gone passed us. We hit the rock & the boy started to fill with water, the boat toppled onto all of us & me (17 year old), my mum & dad all got swept away by the currents, I was the first to go & was more concerned about my 7 year old brother, I got dragged under the water many times, I have cut all my legs open as well as my feet as many times I tried to stand up but I got dragged under every time I did. My mum & dad held on to each other trying to look for my brother but they hit a rock & my dad carried on getting dragged down the river.
NO instructors in their boats stopped or looked back to try& help us.
One boat eventually stopped once I grabbed on to a rock & my mum shouted for help.
A gentlemen came out of the boat to help me NOT the experienced instructor, as I was traumatised, in shock & didn't know what to do, he helped me on to the boat & his wife comforted me.
They then helped my mum & my dad got saved further down.
After that we got rowed back to the end which was 5 mins down the river.
We were all in shock me the most, we met with my brother at the end and he saved him self by holding onto the top of the boat & the instructor grabbed him & the 2 other ladies & carried on down the river.
We got back to the office where we started & complained to the manager they were not interested & laughed in our faces. We were disgusted & in the state we were in did not want to stay and argue, they were more bothered about the money we owed for the drinks we bought at the half way mark.
Overall we had a terrible experience & would not recommend anyone to go with this company! The river itself would have been ok as it wasn't too rough but without the experienced instructor & correct safety gear we were all at risk! This only happened an hour ago & I thought it best to let you all now so you can make your decision whether you would like to raft with this company!
