We are staying here in late January. The service has been fabulous. Reception was very helpful when we needed to book a couple of private tours. There are two lovely pools that look over the beach and you literally step out the back of the hotel and on to the sand. We are traveling with our 10 month old baby and they have been delightful with her. The cot that they supplied is great. My only criticisms are that the bathrooms are a bit tired and the breakfast is pretty basic, even though it was included with our room we have wound up eating breakfast at other cafes.
We have a second floor room and the best part by far is the balcony which is so private that you could walk out without clothes and no one would see you. Will definitely come again.

An undecided review:
The location is fabulous, the food is mostly good, sometimes excellent and sometimes hopeless. The whole place is a bit tired (10 years ago it was top of the bill at Sanur Beach) and some of the staff are also very tired. So it can go both ways.
We were lucky, the food was good and the waiter woke up after a very, very slow start (15 minutes) and became very friendly.
I wouldn’t go for the too fancy dishes, they are not bad, but you can see and taste the chef's struggle, but the Balinese/Indonesian food is very good as are the Australian orientated specials.
Being undecided also goes for the decision whether to go for lunch or for dinner:
If you go at night: it's very romantic and you don’t see the tired spots and the need to do some renovations. But on the other hand, you will miss the beautiful layout and almost breathtaking view over the sea. You will probably have to go twice to make up your own mind.

This is a great budget beach front hotel in Sanur and well worth considering. I have stayed at many hotels in Sanur over the years both budget and 5 star. This is a great hotel and I would happily stay here again when I want a budget beach front hotel in one of the best beach front locations. There are numerous restaurants and shops all around. The hotel is a suitable choice for all travelers from family, singles, couples and groups. There are many return guests staying. The beach front is amazing here with plenty of sun loungers, shady trees, ladies providing massages at only 50,000rp and the swimming pool overlooks the ocean front as well. The restaurant serves the usual choice of food and all is fresh and well cooked. The food is filling and you order from a menu. We ate numerous meals at the restaurant and found everything we ordered to be good quality. Prices are very reasonable for hotel food and the soup and fish in particular were excellent.
We had 2 standard rooms close to the pool (240 and 242 both ground floor). These rooms were clean and spacious even with an extra bed. There is a luggage rack, large desk / dressing table, wardrobe, bed side table, small fridge, cups and a kettle. You need to provide your own tea and coffee. The bathroom is large, older but clean and yes, could do with an upgrade in the near future but really we could not complain as there was plenty of hot water with good pressure and good lighting over the vanity. There is a shower curtain over the bath / shower which you need to ensure stays in the bath to prevent water spilling onto the floor. Soap is provided but you need your own shampoo and conditioner. The towels are showing their age but are clean and replaced every day. Our beds were comfortable and sheets changed every 2nd day. A jug of fresh water is provided each day and there are a few items in the bar fridge as well. Lighting in the room was ‘better’ than many budget hotel rooms but if you like to read at night then take a book light. I find most hotels could do with an improved set of lights. Overall the room was light and airy as there is a large window at the front, there is also a door leading out to the back of the room. The patio is comfy with padded chairs and coffee table. Umbrellas are provided in the room for guests. Pool towels are provided and you can exchange these for clean ones at any time. The grounds are clean, plenty of shady tropical plants and many ponds with fish, and also two turtles which the kids love to stop and look at. There is a pool table and a large table top chess set. The pool has a few noodles, swim rings, and the odd bucket and spade for the kids to use. The pool bar has not been in operation for some time but service is available both around the pool and on the beach.
Reception staff are efficient and are very helpful to the many first timers who are there asking for advice and assistance. Safety boxes are available at reception as there are no room safes. This hotel is cheaper to book via online agents and also via travel agents, also check prices with qantas holidays online as they offer rooms at this hotel. Many rooms at this hotel are allocated to these agents.

Room Tip: Book with online agent or travel agents for best deals.

We HATED this place! It was like the Bali eqivalent of a caravan park! It was woeful! It was full of older people who come here year after year and the overall feeling was that it was like staying at an old peoples home! Our room was small and nothing balinese about it, we could have been anywhere. The restaurant was attractive but the food was pretty bad, my hubby got food poisoning. We had planned to stay for ten days but we checked out after 2. There are SO many places you can stay in Sanur and Bali in general I can think of NO reason to stay at Besakih!

Room Tip: Choose a room at a different hotel is my best advice!

We've been regular visitors to Bali since 1984 - generally coming at least once a year for the past fifteen years. We prefer the relative peacefulness of Sanur over the hustle and bustle of Kuta, Legian and Seminyak. Whilst having walked past Besakih many times we had not stayed here before but, based on other travellers' reviews, we decided to stay for a week in early December. We're glad we did!

We booked direct with the resort, no deposit required. When we arrived we received a warm welcome and no need to prepay for any nights at check-in. Our renovated standard room (#294) was fine - reasonably spacious with nice terrace and a clean bathroom. The room was in the section closest to the road but once inside we didn't hear any noise. The beds were comfortable, linen changed every second day and pool towels supplied to your room. The resort grounds are lovely with a nice garden and some small ponds (one with a couple of turtles). The TV had a very limited range of channels (no movie channels) but that wasn't an issue for us.

As others have described, the pool and resturant is beachside - a great view to start each day. Whilst the choice at breakfast is limited it is fine and you can swap selections. We had no problems in securing poolside lounges but we preferred to sit under the big trees on the beach. We really liked the friendly staff at Besakih, many of whom are older and seem to have worked at the resort for many years. No request seemed too much trouble for them.

Besakih's location is ideal for us - instant access to the beach and the beachside footpath, 10 minutes walk to the Sindhu Beach area (including the wonderful Lutu's Coffee Shop) and 10 minutes walk to Hardys supermarket. On the street side it is easy to catch a bemo or taxi and there is a good selection of resturants, massage places, laundries and shops in walking distance.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and we'll be back.

Room Tip: The standard rooms closer to the road are, in our opinion, nicer than those closer to the beach.
