My rating with 3 star is a bit harsh, but should be read in conjunction with a 4star hotel classification. The rooms and pool are nice and clean. Service is non-existent. For me a fresh brewed coffee in the morning would be something with an improved internet speed (and could consider to increase my rating).

We stayed two nights at Katala with my family before leaving for Gili T island.
The location of Katala Villas is at 10' walk from the main road in Sanur. The place is very nice with a wonderful swimming pool.
However, the service was poor. Nobody at the bar/restaurant if we would have fancied a drink. Fruit platter served in the morning covered with plastic (when was it prepared ??), no acceptance of USD cash...

This was the 4th time we've stayed at Katala over the last few years. This lime we were in Villa 2 (which we had also stayed in about 4 years ago). Everything was very efficiently handled- including 2 pickups to accommodate different arrival times for our family.

This time I'll use my 11 year old daughter's own ratings (copied from her travel journal):

Villa: 5 Stars
Staff: 5 Stars
Breakfast: 5 Stars
Wifi: 5 Stars
Pool: 5 Stars
Close to Hardy's: 5 Stars
Aircon: 5 Stars.

Katala really is a luxurious, & perfect place to stay for a relaxing first few days in Bali.

Just returned from Katala after almost a week's stay. Nothing negative to mention, awesome accommodation, a shout out to an open air shower cabin, we stayed in suite 4, nicely designed with a private terrace outlined by bushes. Smiling helpful staff at front desk and the restaurant. The grounds are lush and green, beautiful relaxing pool area. Everything is cozy and inviting. Location of villas is very favorable, not far from the lively street full of bars and restaurants, although all venues close by 23:00. Overall a fantastic experience, highly recommended to those looking for a holiday tranquility.

This is our second stay and this time we splashed out on a villa. We have been here for 11 nights and can't praise it enough. The villa is gorgeous, so private and luxurious with our own pool and well kept tropical gardens including gazebo bed. The service from Ketut and Putu who cook and service our rooms has been outstanding. They have done everything in their power to make our stay perfect. The position of Katala is great. It's down a little laneway behind Hardys Supermarket and within walking distance to everything in Sanur. It is so much more of a Balinese experience than one of the big hotels because we get to see and enjoy the day to day goings on of the locals instead of the tourist traps around the hotel setting. Sadly we leave tomorrow but we can't wait to come back to Katala.
