“Surprise!!”
Reviewed 12 November 2017 for a stay in November 2017

This is not what we expected. My husband booked this through trip advisor due to all the positive reviews however we did not find it a positive experience. The only positive was the ease of the booking with Karen. We had three other adults and ourselves stay in this villa.

Our airport transfer (Cat Cat) was not at the airport to collect us and we had to get a taxi. The taxi driver had no idea where the villa was and we had to use our google maps to direct him. This was very disappointing and an unnecessary inconvenience, especially as we had landed at 12:30am Bali time (2:30am Australia time) and we were tired from a very long day.

There is a Circle K and Indomart (convenience stores) in the street directly out the front of the complex. No need to purchase water as there are two water coolers in the villa. This villa is not close to the ‘main’ street and the walk to the ‘main’ street is a ten minute walk along a ‘goat track’. We were unable to walk out the front of the complex to get a taxi as we did not see taxis drive down this street unless they were dropping people off, which was not often.

A four bedroom villa and only one key supplied is not at all practical. This meant we had to coordinate our movements to ensure the person with the key was at the villa to let the others in. The safe upstairs requires a key (not practical either).

The air conditioner in the downstairs living area is too small for the area and even with both the air conditioner and fan going the room was hot. The lighting throughout the villa is not very bright.

The breakfast is very basic. We asked for American breakfast every morning however a couple of mornings we were served Indonesian pancakes (which we did not request and therefore did not eat). There was no consistency to the breakfast. Some mornings there was a lot of toast other mornings not enough toast. The hard fried eggs could be hard fried or still runny in the middle. The only juice we drank was the orange juice however we only received it on one morning. The other mornings we were served juice which did not taste nice and therefore we did not drink. We were not given options for the juice. Coffee was offered however when I asked for tea they had none. I drank water every morning and then went up the street to Gloria Jeans for a cup of tea. A couple of days they came back to clean our dishes but we cleaned our own dishes the other days.

The pool is very small for a four bedroom villa and the water in it is hot. The door to the pool area is very noisy when it is opened and closed. The pool was dirty and did not get vacuumed in the 6 days we were there.

The wifi is very good.

The main upstairs shower does not drain very well at all. The downstairs shower was very hard to get the ‘right’ temperature and was always very hot and we got burnt. The door to the ensuite opens if turned one way and does not open if turned the other way. The ensuite shower was very good. All the bathrooms had plenty of storage room to put your toiletries.

The white towels have discoloured and look dirty. We had stayed 4 nights out of 6 before our towels were changed. Some of the white linen is stained. Two of the beds had stained linen and did not get changed during our stay. We were ‘lucky’ if our beds were made at all!! The pillows are hard and high, which gave us kinked necks. We ended up using the cushions off the sofa for pillows which was not comfortable but better than than the pillows.

Hi Donna,

Thank you for your review and feedback. Happy to hear that you found the booking process with me easy.

I have spoken to our Villa Manager Nyoman about your concerns.

Cat Cat did fail to collect the second lot of guests arriving. He did in turn apologies, which he felt was accepted. Although not an excuse, Cat Cat’s wife had just recently given birth to their son and he was exhausted, so he unfortunately slept through his alarm.

It is not a goat track that you walk to get to Kartika Plasa which is the main street that runs along Kuta Beach. There are sections of this road that are currently being repaved, so maybe this is why you have described it this way. Cars and motorbikes use this road.

Contained in our villa listing information, there is a map which pinpoints exactly where our villa is located, so its location should not be a surprise to you. There is also a description as follows:

“Villa Ceria is situated in a peaceful complex located at South Kuta. The villa complex is on JL Kubu Anyar and it is an easy 400 metre walk to JL Kartika Plasa where the Waterbom Park and Centro Shopping Mall are located. This road takes you to Kuta Square and Kuta Beach.”

There are also details of the size of the villa plunge pool stated in the Villa Overview Information as follows, so its size should not be a surprise to you:

“The pool area is located at the back of the villa and it has a very inviting 2.8 metre x 4 metre private plunge pool. This is a fabulous area to relax on one of the two sun lounges and enjoy a bintang or two. There is also a table and six chairs. The pool area can be fully secured by closing the bifold doors and locking windows so children cannot gain access without supervision.”

The staff did come to the villa once daily during your stay. They are not there at your beck & call. The only reason they would not clean/make beds etc. is if one of the guests requested them not to. Linen etc. is changed every three days which is stated in the Villa Overview Information as follows, so this should not be a surprise to you:

“All bed linen, towels and pool towels are supplied and changed every third day. Daily housekeeping service is provided and bottled drinking water is supplied and replenished for the duration of your stay.”

Maybe your husband should have read the villa information provided so he could have made an informed decision as to whether our villa accommodation would be suitable for your group before he booked it.

The other concerns that you have mentioned, I have spoken directly to our Villa Manager Nyoman who said not once did you raise any of your concerns with him or our staff during your stay. This is such a shame because Nyoman could have addressed them quickly for you.

Donna, it is unfortunate that our villa accommodation did not suit you. Our villa accommodation does suit most people and many of our guests return to stay with us. As you mentioned, Alan booked our villa due to the fantastic reviews. These reviews are from past guests, so we must be doing something right.

Kind Regards & Take Care.

Karen.

“"Awsome Family Villa"”
Reviewed 3 October 2017 for a stay in September 2017

Our family of 7 had a great time staying in Karen's Villa Ceria. The villa itself was comfortable, roomy and we all loved it !!! The staff are so friendly and we could not have been happier with the help that they provided. The location is just outside of the busy main streets which suited us fine. There are some local restaurants near the villa complex which we found the food to be so cheap & delicious. We would love to come back again xx

“Great place awesome memories”
Reviewed 25 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We had a group of 8 guys stay at the Villa and from the moment we got there we felt right at home, the staff were amazing and the cooks are fantastic for breakfast. The villa is in a great location central to every major place you would want to visit. I highly recommend trying this little gem if you are travelling to Kuta on a budget.

Loved this villa.. there are 4 rooms... 3 upstairs and 1 downstairs. The whole villa is air conditioned and has a small pool. Breakfast daily was included which consisted of eggs bacon toast OR Indonesian rice or noodles plus Fresh fruit, pancakes and juice. This was plenty for all and delicious. The staff were awesome and nothing was ever too much trouble they were so friendly and helpful and always smiling. Cat Cat the driver was fantastic and great with all my 5 kids (they wanted to bring him home) Karen the owner was very helpful and answered my many questions while booking the villa. She has a list of useful information that was fantastic and a great help when trying to find places to eat etc. Great location just at the back of waterbomb park and only a short walk to the main street of Kuta.. WE WOULD DEFINATELY STAY AGAIN.

“Great villa, will certainly rent again, excellent communication owner”
Reviewed 30 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We have rented the villa for 11 days, and it was great. We were with 8 persons, 6 adults and 2 children. The rooms are great and clean, the swimming pool was very nice. We got breakfast included and every morning it was delicous, american or indonesian breakfast, it was both very tasteful. The communication with the owner (Karen) is excellent, always a quick repsonse. Next time we go to Bali, we will certainly rent again with Karen. Thank you very much!!
